I like DMo. Has been my 2nd favorite Rocket. Worried about him post-injury though.

I also wasn't a fan of TJones with the Rockets. Always ragged on him getting humiliated by LMA in the playoffs.

Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with the false narrative that a Jones without injury wouldn't have been firmly in an NBA rotation this year or next.

It happens only a few times. But I guess we won't talk about the mistakes that sidelines him for majority of the game huh.

Man the entire team has been playing much better defensively. And it's not because of Dmo's presence. It's amazing how yall want to give this man all the credit. Hardens defense has been tremendously better. But you want to give only Dmo the credit. Just doesn't make any sense. I know you're infatuated with what the man did last season before the injury. This year, I'm sorry, it just haven't been the same. Maybe next season when he's on another team, he might get back to last season Dmo.

I knew someone was going to play that race card sooner or later.

That's really the problem with talking to people that aren't good at basketball analysis, they don't know when a player is doing well or not doing well any more than they know who good players are or bad players are. The team has done really well with DMo back in the game for them but unsurprisingly enough a lot aren't capable of seeing it.

So hamm you think you more than a head interm coach huh? If you truly believe so why in the hell you not coaching for some NBA team, hell a D-LEAGUE team or something.
And again dude get over your freaking self. Your opinion really doesn't hold any water around here or any other forum.

How about we fire up the grill, sipping on some ice cold beer and rewatch the last 10 games to breakdown Dmo's entire performance.

There are a lot of people that could coach, it is not that complicated, it is a game not Rocket science.

That being said, if JBB knew what he was doing he would not have kept up the culture of enabling that McHale started, and he would have gotten the players to play and he would NEVER use Corey Brewer as a regular rotation player.

JBB may one day be a great coach, today - not a chance in hell, he is way SUB PAR!

team game is something they teach bball kids in Europe early on

    this is not some secret.

They prepare players to be role players and very talented players have the opportunity to start in the NBA or be a star.

Very few though of those who also have the desire, will and ego to do that.

I am in no way saying JBB is a good coach right now. But it's really ridiculous to say he's the reason why Dmo's production is down. I've seen plenty of games in which the dude went up for a weak layup, or weak jump hook shot that he missed. ( should've dunk ) He doesn't rebound in traffic at all. And his defense is as inconsistent as the rest of them.

Coaching is not that easy. Especially in the NBA. If it was, what's the hold up? Why aren't you coaching for a NBA team? But you are right though, it's very easy to be a armchair coach indeed. We tend think we have all the answers when watching the game. Lol

So we're not going to address the positive that Beasley brought to this team huh. Only Dmo. We're not going to talk about how Harden has been balling on both ends either. Thus the reason he's been awarded the Player of the Month.

And again Dmo would play more if what you posted was true.

Now if you are a real fan of his, well let's talk about the negative of his game.

I'm pretty sure that someone did a pretty good job of dispelling the myth of Beasley a few days ago. Here, read it for yourself

Now, that said, I don't dislike Beasley, I think when his shots are going down he can be a boost to the bench when Harden sits, but given that his defense is an absolute abomination, he shouldn't be on the court very often and surely never at the end of games.

Help me out here. Define "absolute abomination." And tell us a game that exhibits him as an "absolute abomination."

Let's do this so we are on the same page.

A good example was the most recent Rockets vs Bulls game, he was bad all game long defensively but down the stretch the Bulls scored on him multiple times in a row to put the game out of reach.

I mean, if you can't tell that he's a poor defender, then that's a problem in and of itself though. He's every bit as much a defensive sieve as Terry or Brewer and when you have all 3 on the court together....yikes. Throw in Harden and you're just asking to lose games.

D-Mo simply has not been able to reproduce last season's form.

His post game has been poor, and his 3pt shot is gone. He's still a good team defender, passer and is persistent with setting picks and rolling to the basket. That's not NBA starting material though.

He's probably been focusing on rehab a LOT. He's also lost a lot of weight. He needs another one of his summers where he gets stronger (please focus on core and lower body) and fixing that ugly, flat 3pt shot. I hope we re-sign him to a good short term contract, maybe 10m, 2 years.

We're always complaining about role players and I feel like D-Mo is a role player on a championship team. He has a nice all round game, tremendous work ethic and good basketball IQ. Even off the bench backing up the 4 and 5, I want to keep this guy.

Right now though, he's not up to scratch and it doesn't have anything to do with the coaching. You can see it on the floor, his post moves are not smooth like last season and his jumper has regressed. If we're going to have that kind of liability on the floor, I'd rather have Smith or Beasley out there.

Well DMO has always thrived when he has gotten the minutes and the ball in the post, he is getting neither this year, so JBB has a direct correlation to his numbers decline.

Is that the only factor - no, but it certainly is a big one.

OK, I've been watching all the April games of both HOU and GSW. League Pass blacked out a lot of the games for me, so just now getting around to it. I like to study defenses prior to playoffs. Both ours and how opps play us. And likewise, GSW's and how teams guard them. Based on your recommendation to scout Beasley specifically in the CHI game, I think we need to take another look.

CHI as an example might not be the one you mean. I was expecting low post plays exposing him, or blow by's from the perimeter. Something Abominable.

What games do you recall the opps singling out and abusing Beasley? Do you want to look at some plays at nba.com, so you can point them out.

This doesn't help discussion. Just describe what you mean, since you want us all to understand. It's your sub-topic. Then we can discuss from there.

Also, are you using "poor defender" and Absolutely Abominable synonymously?

Watch the game, you'll see him gift the Bulls 3 FT's on more than one occasion and you'll see the Bulls pick on Beasley towards the end of the game and he just gives up basket after basket. I mean, this is off of memory and just off the top of my head, but honestly, it shouldn't be news that Beasley is a bad defender.

I am not saying it is EASY, I am saying there are a lot of people who if they chose to coach could - I think at the NBA level, it is a lot about managing personalities as much as it is about Xs and Os.....anyway...not all coaches in the NBA are GOOD either...

Yeah, I get the "off of memory" part. Happens.

But you did remember the 3 FTs correctly. He did run out hard on Mirotic in the corner, who pumped faked and Beasley crashed into him, twice.

I'm not seeing the 4th Q stuff qualifying as Abominable, though. Also, nothing I'd call "picking on him" or singling him out. I can show you three plays that you might be talking about, though. NBA.com has links to them. One looks like a mix-up by Bev. Beasley is trying to reposition Bev, then no one guards a 3ptr on the wing. I'm question Bev on that, since Terry and Beasley run the same defense a possession later and Terry is in the correct place, and CHI gets a 24 sec clock violation attacking the same way. Another seems to be team break-down on who is covering Gasol rolling off of Howard out high, and Beas has to pick him up leaving a 3ptr in the corner. Another is a switch on Butler without the ball out high, and he dives with a step on Beas for a pass from Gasol.

The rest of that 4th Q, there's no baskets made close to Beas, who is playing largely our low post in our 3-2 zonish coverage...same coverage DMo plays. He's active and alert like DMo. Doesn't stare at the ball like Harden and lose his man. Also, he's fine in OKC, ATL and TOR, too. Got DAL and CLE up next. I'll speak up if I see something horrible. I love and study defense too much to lie to myself about it. Not seeing it, now.

Aside from our abysmal amount of pts off of turnovers and teams running on us, mainly what I see with our set defense is teams are attacking us by getting us on the move. We're playing a 3-2 help defense structure. There are ways to attack those back two, by forcing them to move a lot...and pinning them. Teams carve us up, but don't really single out players.

Keep an open mind. Maybe you're just worried that this gift of an offensive player must come with a big negative.

I kinda feel similarly about GM'g. I think there are some just plain bad GM's who make Morey look good. I think a lot of people can do the analytic stuff Morey is known for - I do not think that is as complicated as it seems to be. Now, scouting - that seems tough. But what does Morey know about scouting? I think coaching is much tougher. And one of the most important elements of coaching IMO is credibility, which I think is hard - not impossible - to get for non-athletes. Just my guess.
