Vince Velaquez, let's see if he doesn't break down. It's only 2 starts vs bad teams. Last year, with the Astros Vince pitch great, but then got inured!

I hope it doesn't turn into Curt Schilling 2.0. It hurts more with the slow start to the season.

I know the Padres are beyond terrible on offense but ouch. Wow.

I don't think he was injured last year, i believe we did not use him much as a reliever at the end of the season.

Now, i liked what i saw from him last year.

The thing is i believed we could had used VV the same way Toronto used Osuna last year and this year for that matter. We did not need Giles when you have VV who can be a set up man, until a spot in the rotation gets open.

VV is good, he has very good stuff.

The deal with VV is injuries. VV has a history of injuries. IIRC the Phillies ask the Astros for more in the trade, after getting back VV's physical results.

Yeah, Padres & Mets are 2 of the worst offenses in baseball, we'll see. Hope he continues to do well, everyone pretty much agreed that if he can stay healthy he's going to be quite good.

In the other hand, Joe Musgrove hasn't allowed any type of run after 2 starts! Hopefully he pans out as a pretty good starting pitcher. Astros need some starting pitching prospects. Pretty sure they will draft a few in the 2016 MLB Draft. Ferrell maybe th Astros future closer with in a year, specially with the debacle Ken Giles has been.

Yep. If he stays healthy, it probably will be a very bad deal for the Astros. That said, the Astros likely don't think he will be healthy. The last two notable pitchers that the Astros had injury concerns went down pretty quick.

Luhnow's track record when trading prospects for big leaguers looks pretty poor so far. Kazmir, Gomez, Gattis, Giles...none of them have had the desired impact, and taken as a whole the prospects shipped out have excelled.

The 1st Lowrie trade and the 1st Fowler trade turned out ok, but damn it hurts seeing all these other teams with former Astros farmhands either at the top of their prospect lists or kicking ass in the majors.

Luhnow also has a growing list of letting value walk out the door, as Villar and Carter are off to hot starts possibly setting up next to JD Martinez and Delino DeShields as good players pretty much just cut loose.

That's what happens when you draft and develop talent successfully like this regime has. You can't keep everyone and you aren't going to get every decision right.

    Meh...

Vilar had no real position in Houston. He has drawn 5 walks early, but other than that, nothing great. Same with Santana. He has been okay, but not great.

No one wanted Carter back, the Astros have far better internal option. Carter was terrible last year.

Delino DeShields is "okay", but again wouldn't be getting at bats in Houston, and isn't very good in the field.

Vince Velasquez is the one that may really end up hurting. Just keep in mind that yesterday was the first time he went over 7 innings in his entire life. He wont go more than 100 innings this season before he is shutdown. It will be a few years before he can go 200 innings, and that is assuming he doesn't get hurt in the interim and continues to be effective.

Hated to see Vince go, I think him and Hader both will become stars

    Kazmir
Nottingham- Off to a slow start in AA but power is real with this guy.

    Gomez
Hader- Strong start to the season in AA, I actually think he'll end up being the top guy in this trade
Houser- Not too worried about him, but he still has upside and made it to the majors last year
Phillips- Hated seeing him traded, he's off to a good start in AA. Not sure if his power is for real or if he's just a 10-15 hr type guy. Still projects as a solid starter.
Santana- If he cuts down on the strikeouts, he could be a star.

    Giles
Appel- I think he just needed a fresh start somewhere, don't think he'll ever live up to 1-1, but he might not be as big of a bust as we thought he'd be
Velasquez- This was my favorite guy in the system for the past few years, really hated to see him go.

2 prospects for a guy who can't throw anyone out?! (OK, so he could, I guess, in LA? Oh wait, it was his "pitch framing" that was all the buzz) Then you have to sell him for "cash considerations" because he sucked so bad.
Trading Dexter Fowler for Dan Straily & Luis Valbuena?! Then you trade 4 prospects 6 months later for another CF?! Straily later traded for a 4th string catcher.
2 prospects for a SP rental?
Jed Lowrie just given away to Oakland!
5 guys traded for a guy who can't even lock up the 8th inning?! (OK, so it's early)

VV is only one question, health.

If healthy, the trade will go in favor of Phillies.

Now, i still believe Appel will be a good pitcher in the majors.

My biggest complaint with lunhow is that I think he has undervalued Ed wade players . I've got no problem with him preferring guys that he drafted , but i think he could have more appropriately valued some of the talent wade brought in .
