This is normal in this part of the world. Not because of women are not worthy, but because it's a sign of respect.

Man. Next thing you know Muslim saves world from alien attack and someone gonna find a way to give it a negative twist.

So trustme finds it a positive that this guy treats the female interviewer with no respect. Not surprising.

That's not actually what he said, but go ahead and keep distorting people's views like the nutcase you are.

What? It is a sign of respect to NOT look at someone when they talk to you?

Just one ****ed up notion right there.

Show me where he stated that the guy was treating the woman with no respect.

You might disagree with his take, but that doesn't make it ok to put words in his mouth.

Treating her as a joke which was clearly obvious in the interview and making degrading sarcastic remarks at her to the point where the translator didn't even want to to translate what he was saying is in no way in any moral system showing respect.

trustme said this is normal behavior in that part of the world as a sign of respect for women.

That's the problem. This "sign of respect" is about as disrespectful as you can get. Don't tell me something is a sign of respect while you're disrespecting me. I will always call BS on that.

    Tiny taste' of disrespect

“It was humiliating to be disregarded in that way,” said Yeung, whose documentary aired Sunday on HBO. “Throughout the interview, and even before, there was a hostile environment. It was very clear that he did not have much time for me as a person, and so he was not listening to any of my questions.”

Hanafi is a conservative Islamic scholar who represents the western province of Herat in parliament.

Yeung, who is calling for Hanafi’s resignation, said she experienced “a tiny, tiny, tiny taste of the amount of disrespect that many Afghan women have to battle every day.”

Hundreds of Afghans have taken to social media to condemn Hanafi.

“As long he is in parliament, he and people like him will remain a massive obstacle to women’s rights in Afghanistan,” Yeung said of Hanafi.

I'm sorry, but does she really believe this will cause him to step down?

There are some deep-seated issues that need to be overcome in that region as a whole before something like this would happen

It's drawn a lot of international attention. it's a step in the right direction.

When people see that he was treating a non Afghan woman badly, an international reporter, then it'll strike a nerve.
