Yes they are important they are very important but so is hitting ! If your hitting like a pitcher it's hurting the team. I just hope he starts hitting at least .225ish

That HR by Altuve was the longest of his career

I agree with you. I don't think we have any other better options though. Gattis catching sounds like a pipedream to me.

People act like catching is a position you just fill. When I see Gattis blocking balls in the dirt and throwing runners out then I will be onboard.

I was just gonna ask if he's even capable I mean Conger was always a liability last year and he's the Rays starting catcher Gattis hasn't even caught in a while in the majors :(

Twice now I have heard Ashby imply that Gattis would be replacing Tyler White in the lineup. I know...he says idiotic things all the time.

I'm glad it only took ~4 games for everyone to find their new(?) whipping-boy: the #9 hitter in the lineup, a very good defensive catcher...

Protip: if the starting pitching it terrible, the Stros will not win games. Offense is not the problem so far, outside of Altuve and Springer at the top of the order.

His game against the Yankees (a very good hitting team), was much better than Fister's against the Brewers (a mediocre hitting team).

Unfortunately it appears boneheaded base running is apart of Altuve's package at this point. He has far too many of those type of blunders.

absolutely. Especially as much as Keuchel and McHugh throw breaking balls in the dirt as they go for K's.

Not to mention that Gattis's past forays into catching were thought to be bad on his body + he's coming off a hernia. I suppose he might ask for it if they said he'd be a PH otherwise..

GAttis threw 33 percent in 2013 and 20 percent in 2014.

First number is ok, second number below average but not awful.

What we are saying is, come on, hit .235, but .211????

Bunt more, try once per game.

Huh? Arbitrarily bunt once per game as a relatively slow guy?

Nobody is saying anything egregious or new... but he is fast becoming the worst hitting catcher in baseball, and he's not quite the best defensive catcher in baseball to necessarily warrant playing 130 or so games.

Its bad when the front office admits that Gattis catching is a possibility.
