It's Morey's coach, Morey's players, Morey's fault. That's how it works. Plus, this is the guy that always said winning builds chemistry and then he built a talented team with no chemistry that couldn't win.
from what i've seen, DM is too much of a control freak for his own good. i think DD's suggestion that we bring in a strong bball guy to work alongside him (and have considerable decision-making power) would serve us well going forward. too bad jerry west is already taken and too bad rudy is probably too old now to take on such responsibility. shane?
His contract runs until 2018 so I think he's fine. Les may take some power way from him and put more in you hands of a coach (i.e. our scheme), which is fine.
This is probably being leaked out now so that the Rockets win the last 3 games and have a chance at making the playoffs which is what Les wants. Don't be surprised if we see normal rotations in the last 3 games.
One word, MOREYBALL! The worst mistake this organization made was letting a GM, who's strictly a numbers guy with absolutely no basketball history as a player, run the offense for our team. It worked last year but teams figured us out, and now we've made no strategic adjustments
Great Idea! Wait, what happened to Sam Hinkie in Philly again when they brought in "basketball guys?" That logic was one of the main reason Mchale was hired in the first place. Who is a more basketball lifer than Kevin Mchale? The problem is not Daryl's basketball accumen. It's just because Les had a set of guidelines that is virtually impossible. In order to win a championship, you have to have a transcendent superstar. No body is giving any of those up. Most are picked in the top 5 picks. The problem is that the system rewards teams with the worst records those picks. Part of Les' mandate was not to tank but field a competative team. Morey did exactly that, and then was prepared to strike when Harden came available. Harden is has his flaws, he is not Lebron, Curry, Durant. But when those guys are available, let me know. Because you have to collect non ideal players, you always run the risk of exposing their flaws. This season exposed all the players' and coaching staff's flaws. We now know the high and low variation of this group. WCF or might not make the playoffs range. The real question is, now that you've lived through both... Do you continue down this path and try to get high risk/high reward which is what we have done? Or do we go the San Antonio route and build a culture and fit players/staff to that model? I think that in the long run, you need to establish culture. That is why when we look for a new coach and roster change this summer, culture establishment should be the biggest need of the summer. Even more than Durant. Because the likes of Durant would not want to come to this mess anyways.
I highly doubt Dmorey gets fired, while its been a disapointing season. He's still a good GM. I do think the whole organization should be revalued from top to bottom. But in the end I don't they're going to let him go.
The warriors boast 2 of the greatest shooters in NBA history, with probably the best 3pt shooting overall--ever. On the extreme end, they have the personnel, strategy, and winning culture in their organization. They also have bunch of guys like Barnes/green who come into the game and knock down midrange after midrange.
Honestly, this thing that's now going around about having a "basketball guy" is kind of ridiculous. Morey is a basketball guy. He's been a basketball GM for almost a decade. He lives and breathes it. He's a fan at his core. Bringing in someone who has no idea how to run an organization other than a few trinket stories about their playing or coaching days is just something the dying breed of managers are trying to hold on to. These are one trick ponies and they don't want to admit it. The Jerry Colangelos of the world are done. There needs to be someone not reporting to Morey assessing Morey for sure, but that person has to understand everything: analytics, finance/accounting/cba, on court strategy, organizational behavior, modern basketball trends, drafting, and FA recruitment. THAT's a basketball guy. That's a person who can appraise Morey every couple of years in a professional and transparent way, and that person should be told they will never have any chance at becoming GM otherwise politics will ruin us.
we don't need to bring in a dick like colangelo. and even though mchale has been around the nba 35yrs doesn't mean his bball acumen extends beyond the etch-a-sketch level. i don't see a guy like shane threatening DM's job. of course there are dozens of other good fits we could consider as well. as far as getting top 5 picks, both dwight and harden fit that criteria. while the example you cited in curry doesn't. that being said, i also would have preferred the tanking route at least once in the past 2 decades. but now that we have harden i doubt we lose more than 45 games in any season anyways. and i prefer not trading him. so i think bringing in a bball guy up top is the best option. it has worked well for GS.
You hit the nail on the head man. Its not that I dislike Morey, its just that ever since he got the green light for meddling into coaching post Adelman, the dude has been a giant control freak. Coaching and management need to keep each other in check. Pop cites this as the biggest reason for him and RC being successful.
If we ever had a competent coach, maybe that would matter, but honestly, a total moron like JBB needs Morey to be more of a control freak. No way Morey wants him totally screwing up lineups and rotations the way he has this season. Of course, letting that idiot be interim head coach was something Morey did, so we can blame that on him.
