Well my friend, we gave an out there, and it was the difference on the game. Sorry, but many mistake by the manager today. Maybe tomorrow we are going to see Valbuena hitting third and Castro hitting 5th.
If a runner does not engage in a bona fide slide, and initiates (or attempts to make) contact with the fielder for the purpose of breaking up a double play, he should be called for interference under this Rule 6.01.
I get the rules... and I guess you can now presume double plays are automatically going to happen, regardless of who's batting and who's throwing?
just asinine. what if you don't slide, but just plow into the runner upright and say you were turning the corner heading to third?
This is what I have a problem with the most. Baseball previously prided itself on not assuming what "could" happen unless it actually did happen.... but throw all that out the window now. I guess you should now enforce errors on attempted (but botched) double plays, since they are now presumed. Hell, why not presume the runner from third was going to somehow try and go home... and he would have been thrown out there too.
