Just read the first 4 pages and can't go any further. I'm speechless. Unbelievable. To whoever asked on page 2 or 3 if he would get another NBA GM job: Ain't no way. This is what happens when you put a shallow stat guy in a big-time leadership role.
That was a hell of a lot of luck involved. What if Harden signed the extension? That means no Harden, no Dwight. We would have featured Parsons as a star and attracted no free agents; possibly DJ if we sold him on giving him more touches. Knee-gimped Parsons and DJ. And that is assuming that DJ doesn't do the same thing he did to Dallas in this alternate timeline. Morey would have been fired by now.
I take back the p***y remark about Hinkie. I think he might be slightly autistic like the Doctor in The Big Short instead.
Remember when Tmac and Yao left and the Rockets tanked to land Harden and Dwight. Wait, that didn't happen. But hey, there are tons of people who want to lump all stats guys together while collectively overlooking that the two hottest teams in the west thrive on stats.
The guys are all about analytics and don't care about the spirit of the team. We couldn't keep guys here for longer than 3 years. Do you think a guy who knows he might play with the team for couple of years is willing to spend his time focusing on winning? Camaraderie doesn't get built over night. We lost a bunch of very good franchise players. And don't tell me we couldn't have gotten Harden or Dwight if we didn't trade them. We had ways to upgrade, not by just collecting assets. Murray has been shuffling players for way too long. Its time for someone else to take the job.
Disagree. I bet If I looked back into your post history after the WCF last season you'd be all about keeping our team together. Morey did that and the team didn't do it's part. Morey wouldn't have kept Brewer if he was about assets. Brewer wasn't worth the money he paid him but because he wanted to keep the chemistry he bit the bullet. The problem this season is all on the players. Because these players WERE 20 wins better last season. You can't give me a reason why this season is on Morey other than the fact he fired McHale.
A bunch? Maybe Lowry, but who else? You used the term franchise player, that's a player to build around. Whitesides is not a franchise player. Lin is not a franchise player. You are just spewing ignorance here. TBF even the loss of Lowry wasn't avoidable. Lowry had issues, getting dealt to Toronto helped him start to address those head on. Has Morey done a perfect job? No. But, he went from Tmac and Yao to Harden and Howard and number 2 in the west in a rather short stretch of time. I haven't seen a GM turn a team around that quickly in quite some time.
What? What player should we have kept? We lost zero franchise players, what in the world are you talking about.
Its not about relying on stats, its the dismissal of chemistry, coaching and eveything else. I wish DM relied more on stats and went all the way in the that dept instead of chasing stars and fitting uncomplimentary pieces of the puzzle together.
If anything that hurt us, was losing Livingston because of guaranteed PG contracts, striking out on any FA interest after Howard, or not finding gems with the 14th pick which is reasonable (most teams aren't). You could argue no FA wants to play for Morey or with Harden, but I don't think that's true.
I think Sam Hinkie is as good as Morey, if not better. They are both extreme seekers, Morey likes trading for star players without having development and chemistry. Sam Hinkie sets his goal on development and chemistry without trading for star players. I do not like any of them. However, in term of building team chasing for title, I like Sam Hinkie's plan more because that is the fundamental for becoming a elite team.
please cut the crap about Livingston. He wasn't very good that summer and went to Brooklyn were he was ok. It took him joining the Warriors to become a good backup. It's like saying you blame Morey for missing out on Jeremy Lamb.
Got to agree about his drafts esp with Embiid, you could excuse him if he got injured after the draft but he got hurt before the draft and Hinkie still pulled the trigger on picking him. He's a riverboat gambler and loves the art of making deals but a good GM he's not.
Good riddance. The guy didn't know how to actually build a team, help with player development, how to do the PR work to be a GM and pissed off agents by lying to them to top it off. The only good he was, was with trades. So good riddance and since now the Sixers will do trades for their "main pieces" even better for the rest of the league. As for his letter I have no interest to read it. 13 freaking pages wtf.
It would be ok if he took only that gamble. But then you can't draft any more Centers without one single nba caliber point guard to help them develop , without some type of discipline in the team and basically waste all the seconds too. Hinkie, Ainge and Morey all come from the same GM tree and all share the same trait. Not good at drafting, great at trades. But Hinkie's job required excellent drafting to pull it off so he was horrible for the job.
