this is his worst season, and we're still a borderline 500 team, not a 10-20win team. he fked up, but he's done well over here. give him a chance to fix it. midseason to offseason. if it doesnt work otu then fire him

can't believe this thread is 6 years old -- 2010.

I suppose it's kinda cool to read through the Rockets' historical moments when it got bumped. It alternates between a bump to criticize and bumps to cheer Morey! You can figure out most by their bump date. But, I didn't quite understand the 11/20/2014 bump. Had to look that up, because none of the comments really talked about anything.

I guess it was because Dwight got injured??? lulz. Poor Morey.

We have a bunch of very short sighted and small minded "fans" who are always looking for scapegoats.

When you take the role as company leader, you take on the responsibilities of that role.

Morey is the public face of the Rockets, he is the guy in charge, it is his philosophy, and his players that are failing at some point the guy in charge has to stop blaming others for his own shortcomings.

This is Morey's team, his philosophy, his mess.

He is the man in charge.

i wouldn't be surprised if DM voluntarily steps down after this season and takes time off away from basketball altogether.

No one is refuting what you're saying about responsibility.

However, most people don't agree that this single season mess is on management. It's clearly on the coaches and players.

He hired McHale and I hated that decision, but McHale overshot the team's target every single season. I thought each season would be McHale's last, but he kept topping it. He led us to the WCF - were we really going to fire the second most succesful coach in Rockets history?

As soon as McHale stopped performing, he fired him. Here's where I think he made a bad judgement call. He went with JB because bringing in a new coach would be a big change in the season. However, IMO it was early in the season and we should have gone with someone better than JB. Despite disagreeing with him, I'm pretty sure that's a 50-50 decision, easy to say I was right in hindsight. At that point I was watching dreams of NBA finals crumble, I didn't want an upheaval either which would make even another WCF appearance impossible.

My thought process was: this is the same team as last season, virtually the same coaching staff minus the head coach whose voice they had tuned out anyway. We had defensive problems and the defensive coach was to take over, and he has a good reputation as a young coach in the league.

There's no huge mess here in the way you're describing it. I believe that to you Morey has made a mess for years, but there's not enough evidence or consensus to back it up. Most people hate this season. Most people had/have an issue with Morey. But few agree that Morey has been a mess for a while and has drowned this organization and it's time for him to go. That's just really apocolyptic thinking.

As a fellow Rockets fan I feel for you man. It's a ****ty ****ty year. The most disappointing regular season in Rockets history. We're all hurting man, but calmer heads should prevail. Let's re-assess this in the summer.

I find all he b****ing about Morry hilarious. No one here predicted this would happen. The Lawson signing and keeping the roster nearly intact were all praised in here.

You get judged on results, what good is bringing in Lawson if you don't have a coaching staff capable of building a plan to utilize him?

The failings are organizational - not just roster oriented, firing McHale was fine, but not without having a quality replacement there immediately - you don't bring in the defensive assistant and promote him when the defense is the reason the head coach was fired.

And, Yes, I think Morey has to deal with Le$ and he is the primary culprit here - but you can't shy away from responsibility, which Morey does by mentioning Le$ strategy publicly, giving himself an out.

Morey is a clever guy, he knows exactly what he is doing - IMHO, we need more NBA people to compliment him - put a President at his level, someone that is a Basketball guy, maybe a Rudy T?

i've been saying for years that you can't win nba games with a calculator. either morey has to step back and only be a gm (we know he's more than that) or he has to go.

dare i say it, morey needs to be more like rick smith

A normal gm would be cursing his but off at the coaching staff for this crap performance. He's still not over his plan going up in flames this year.

Does Morey even know how to scout? Analytics and scouting seem to be pretty distinct skill sets.

I also question why Morey would be picking our coaches. Do we know for sure he does that? I don't think he made the call to fire McHale either. I would think the owner makes these calls.

Rockets international scouts are alright but not Spurs level great or other good teams with great scouts.

This Brewer contract is looking really bad right now. He had some good games last year, but was always inconsistent. I don't think he would have gotten half of what Morey gave him from another team.

Brewer had some slumps and sucked for half the playoffs last year. But when he was on, he was terrific. Let's not forget he helped the team win Games 1 and 2 vs the Mavs when Dwight and then Harden were struggling. And he was instrumental in the Game 6 comeback vs the Clippers.

I'm not saying he's not a disaster this season, cuz he absolutely is. But he was nowhere close to this bad last year.
