Thank God, White's hand isn't broken

Listened to the entire show and don't recall his using those words. He kept saying, "throw the ball at his back". Which would've made Correa out since he was in the field of play. Ball would also be dead, thus no runs would've scored on that play.

Charlie also repeatedly said, John Sterling-style (Yankee radio announcer), "theeeeaaaeaaea Yankees LOSE".

He's no Yankee fan, and his strategy is correct.

    - it eliminates the chance of an errant throw (if you hit the runner, of course)
    - it more easily shows the runner "did" interfere

    Today's game

Pitching: K was great, a blunder by Correa on an easy grounder, should had been a double play an wasn't, and then a double by Headley cost him 2 runs but then he was Cy K again and all and all, pitched a very good game.
Giles struggled a bit with one batter and the dominated.
    Gregerson pitched great.

First of, i want to say that Hinch made a great call making Gregerson the closer over Giles. I said in ST i was a bit worried with Giles, and first game in a regular game also struggled with the homer allowed. Hinch did not care about how much we gave to get Giles and gave the job to Gregerson who pitched better in ST and did a nice job last year.

Now offense. Correa is a stud, big homer plus 2 steals.
Altuve taking more pitches, hit the ball well.
White with a single on a change up, great at bat with 2 strikes.
Valbuena had a good game defensively and offensively, big hit that drove 2 runs. In that at bat he did not try to hit a homer like he did last year and just put a good swing an got a single.
Gomez did not look good at all, but made a very good play in centerfield.
Marwin played good defense at 1st.

Castro called a good game, did not look good in 2 at bats today.
Tucker was VERY GOOD as a DH. I wanted to see him more of him in the lineup as DH last year, will that happen this year once Gattis is back in the roster?

Today was a very good game for the Astros, Hinch made some good moves and ran a lot. Good move letting K pitched the 7th. Good lineup and used White as pinch hitter and worked.

Nice win for the Astros, lets get those Yanks tomorrow.

Do they just wear those on opening day, or can they wear them as their alternates all season long?

Reading the comments, the first comment was replied to by the author. It doesn't make any changes to in market games.

You're still screwed if you are in Houston trying to watch the Astros

Yeah I think that was an under the radar solid pick up for them. He'll hit better than he did last year.

you missed it then. it was right after sparks' player of the game which went to correa, those exact words.
Not bashing charlie p just don't need to hear negative nancy after a win, that's why we have our friend here and delgado. it's like bobby said, you can stop it by not being an arrant throw. the pitcher rushed the play from the beginning and the ball was moving all over the place with the weather.

another funny moment of that segment, caller calls in and begins with "carlos was great." the response, "he is hitting .250" caller goes silent. that one made me chuckle. It was funny because minutes earlier he called correa a mega super star but he just couldn't help himself making the caller aware of the .250 average.

this should be a game thread sorry for carrying over a cp topic.
That Valbuena tho! He is so clutch even though at times he shows flashes of chris carter.

Many callers complain about Charlie's being too negative. Their entitled to their opinion. My opinion is they're all too sensitive. Charlie is a FAIR broadcaster who doesn't really cheer pro or anti Houston. I laughed when he said .250, but some people need to be held.

Bobby's comment was a biased one. On that play 2 things happened...

1st- Correa ran an illegally path
2nd- Yanks pitcher completely jacks the throw

Neither of those can be denied.. and must be considered

Switch the jerseys, then reconsider your point

Looking forward to McHugh starting his season strong. He's more important with McCullers out.

Would be surprised if White plays. Hand isn't broken, but probably bruised real good.

    Go Astros!!

After the game White said his hand felt fine and he felt like he could play tonight. That is extremely fortunate. Tyler does lean out over the plate, I assume Barbato was trying to back him off but almost was a replay of Dickie Thon's beaning years ago. Scary close.

Here is what I have found on the Correa play. It is covered by MLB rule 6.05(k)

I highlighted what I think is the important part of the ruling. He has to hinder the fielder receiving the throw not the fielder making the throw. With Betances trying to throw over him, he did not by rule interfere with the 1st baseman trying to catch the errant throw. I know it seems like semantics and he was running out of the lane, but liek everyone else has said if Betances hits him with the throw then it is obvious that he interfered with the 1B man catching the ball. As it was that didn't happen and the umpires judged that it was not interference.
