Just getting a bump in on a thread people read if anyone is interested in going. I work at CPC, so I may work the games... my ticket rep with the Austin Spurs is a Rockets fan Austin Spurs v Rio Grande Vipers for Round 1 of D League Playoffs Austin vs. Rio Grande Valley Game 1 – Tues. I think Asik is a better fit here than he was there, playing along side AD doesn't help. But wtf was going through Morey's mind during those picks?! Morris 2Pat (decent player but still...) White .. .. .. Decker?
Asik didnt even want to be here. Like now how Dwight is getting bashed for sulking, Asik was plenty bad himself. Morey's truly bad pick was Morris over Kawhi. Then Joey Dorsey over DeAndre Jordan (AND Omer Asik again), that was the true start of casting doubt on analytics-led drafting. (Royce was a gamble all the way, he had all the "Draymond Green" offensive talent. Rockets were on good position, just it seems they drafted against themselves, didnt seem a big market for Royce) Drafts generally are graded by the players you DIDNT get. In most the Morey drafts there isnt clear better player past who was drafted. I think Morey is taking good approach on trading PERCEIVED value of picks past the ACTUAL value of picks (maybe to save himself from more Kawhi type draft misses lol) Jury is still out on Dekker. Blake Griffin missed his entire 1st year with an injury. He obviously came back strong. Dekker hasnt flashed much promise but he still has time in front of him to heal and show something
Dekker was one of the Rockets "non can kicking options." Are you saying we should kick his can out of town?
Asik would have complain about his minutes like he did here, because Capela would have taken his minutes and starring spot
Dekker will need to "develop his back" or else he will be useless. Howard, Motiejunas, Dekker — Does Daryl love guys with back problems?
Some guys Morey could have picked instead of Dekker: Bobby Portis Larry Nance Jr Guillermo Hernangómez Norman Powell
Powell has 6, 6! games in a row with double digit scoring, on Raptors team that has tons of talent and are second in the East, in the perfect world he could have taken all the minutes from Brewer...
Not to mention he has some really translatable skills regardless of a system he's put in. He can hit the three, defend, moves well without the ball, is a slasher, a Westbrook type of transition game and mentality. Not to mention he's 6'4 with a 6'11 wingspan! (DMo has a 6'11 wingspan being 7'0 tall)
Negative trade value at this point. Still hoping he will figure it out. He's going to need at least another season on the Vipers to have a chance at cracking the rotation.
We can package Dekker and Brewer to a team for a half eaten PB&J sandwich and 1/4 bag of chili cheese fritos. DD
