We can be 100% sure that it wasn't Carl or Rick based on Negan saying if anyone tried anything to cut Carl's eye out and feed it to Rick. I think you can also rule out any that was kneeling from Rick to the left (Rick's left) based on the way Negan motioned.

Personally I think they take a ton of sting out of it by doing it this way. When next season comes and they do the reveal it just won't have the impact as it would have had we seen the person dying or at least clearly heard who it was. Then they could have wondered if the guy was going to die or live. The "who is it" cliffhanger is just weak in my opinion and it's cheap.

I consider it incredibly cheap when the way a show hooks you to watch the next season is to leave you with a cliffhanger like that. Walking Dead has done this repeatedly now where they setup a cliffhanger and then have a bunch of episodes slowly move towards a reveal. It's cheap writing. Basically all you need to watch in Walking dead is Episode 1 to find out what they will be driving at towards the mid-season finale, the mid-season finale to resolve that and see what the next cliff hanger is and then the finale.

I'm not one of those fan that keeps complaining about how bad the show is yet still follow it. Nor am I one that proclaims TWD hasn't been good since season 1, but still follow it after 5 seasons. I find the finale enjoyable overall and was just a little put off by the cliffhanger, but not outrage.

With that said, I find their reasoning to be laughable and agree with some of the fans that these 2 figure heads are either clueless or full of themselves. Maybe both.

The biggest clue for me was the fact that it took 2 hits. Negan said something to the effect of them taking it like a champ.

My vote is on Abraham, he could take the first hit like a champ, and the whole talk about starting up a family, etc. I would prefer it to be Glenn due to the dumpster BS they pulled earlier and the effect it would have on Maggie.

Normans new show on AMC has already been filmed and was in down time from TWD. Shouldn't effect his character going forward.

Ive recently cut back cable, no dvr, download mostly everything or stream. Ive watched the last couple of episodes live due to not wanting to wait to start in until 9:15 or later. This will be the last time that ever happens. The first half of this season was garbage, the second half was much better, but I personally don't feel the story is over for the season until we know who got Lucille. The producers comments are BS to me, if you wanted to have the Negan story line push next season you introduce him next season. They took the easy way out and will gauge our anger before choosing whos gone.

I am a JDM fan, mainly from Supernatural, have not read the comics, but thought he did a good job, he fit the role of a likable villain well.

Like someone else said, I'm very seriously considering going Netflix on TWD and just waiting until the season is over to binge it to take into account the way the producers like to screw over their audience. At least that way I only have to deal with it once a season, or maybe twice if I watch S07A during the unnecessary break.

So now we have ninja Saviors too. You can't even move through the woods in the cover of night without bumping into Savior central. Spot lights strategically set up, Team Savior chilling out, and the RV parked nearby so Negan doesn't have to walk too far to make his entrance.

My guess as to the most likely victim:

    1) Glenn - Other than canonic reasons, it would also catapult the Maggie's pregnancy storyline to the forefront, plus Glenn has worn the most annoying plot armor forever. Time to go.

    2) Eugene - This episode brought Eugene as a character full circle. He proved his worthiness to Abraham and had a bro hug moment, plus he gave Rick his most valuable contribution to the group yet (bullet making instructions). He could die now and it would be a perfect sunset.

    3) Aaron - Because the writers simply don't have the balls to kill a major character. Aaron is awesome and needs to be a new central character in the show, but it wouldn't shock me if the writers wussed out and offed him.

    4) Abraham - For much of the same reasons Eugene is ready to go, so is Abraham. Just not quite as much. The budding love triangle has a ways to go in terms of story development. Also Abraham looks like he would be of extreme use to Negan's gang. On the other hand, killing the biggest, baddest dude of their group would send a very strong message.

    5) Daryl - He's only this high because he isn't Carl, Rick, or a female. Very unlikely.

    6) Carl - Nope.

    7) Sasha, Rosita, Michonne - They're not going to beat a woman to death with a baseball bat on cable TV.

    8) Rick - Double nope.

    9) Maggie - They're absolutely not going to beat a pregnant woman to death with a baseball bat on cable TV.

Bad presentation. Eugene was caught and gave away their plan.

I found it amazing that in this eps, with an army of folks/cars and all the noise, there isn't much of any zombies.

I'm thinking Glenn based on what was said in the "Talking Dead". If it's not Glenn, then a lot of the stuff that comes next won't flow up against the comic. And, my understanding is it wouldn't be just minor adjustments to the story line which would be impacted. This would be a major deviation. I think they've done a good job of making it not look like it will be Glenn up to this point and after the dumpster thing turned out okay.

I'm not sure Negan's thought process but I think he admired Abraham for not only his size but his bravery when he was ready to take his. I think Negan would consider Abraham an asset. I don't think Negan really considers anyone a threat at all. Rick looked like a fumbling idiot about to go back into the psychosis he experienced when he lost his wife.

My only other two that I think Negan would find to be pretty useless to his cause next would be Eugene and Aaron. I'm not sure how relevant these two are in the comics but I wouldn't think they would be major players going forward.

I hate that we have to stew on this for six months. Crap.

But, the most hilarious part is we thought this group was solid and were on top. Turns out...they really aren't. I can't say how it goes long-term...but at least now they had their sh_t handed to them in a major way. For the longest time, it seemed Rick had everything needed to lead and then he totally came up empty here. The group is not nearly as strong as we thought. They just got lucky in that they never ran into any groups in the past that were that much better than them.

My money is on Aaron. Useless character and begged Rick to go against his will. No other reason for that scene, IMO.

By the way, what happened to the Jesus? I forgot where he left off.

I was seriously disappointing that Jesus wasn't in the finale what so ever. I have a feeling it's going to be a combination of him, Morgan, Carol and those people on horseback that will save them or Negan will just let them go after killing off one of the main characters with a promise that they will have to work for him from now on.

I thought it was presented pretty well. Eugene looked ashamed and Rick looked at him with disappointment.

He got caught quick, was beat up and gave up the plan. In the end he is not the survivor he thought he was.

It's very possible, if not likely, the saviors were onto them from the beginning.

I enjoyed the episode but this cliffhanger for a character is nonsense and obnoxious. Other shows do it but they don't leave in the middle of a scene like 1950s batman tv, even then you only waited a week. Now these producers will spend the first 6 episodes of next season showing us what each character kneeling down had for breakfast earlier that day.

This. Eugene wouldn't have volunteered to drive the RV and pretty much guaranteed to be killed when found if he wasn't willing to sacrifice. He wouldn't have given up the location of the group. The look Rick gave him was more of "our plan didn't work".

I think what is really surprising is just how many damned people Negan has in his mobilizable army.

He clearly has a lot of settlements and random encampments "working" for him (i.e. giving him supplies in exchange for not getting murdered), but in terms of people he actually commands as a force unit... it's a freaking battalion.

That's not evening counting the several dozen Saviors that Rick and company have already killed.

Dumb cliffhanger because we'll all hear who isn't filming the new season soon enough, whether we seek that info or not. It'll just get spoiled. Bad move.

Where is the group right? Virginia? Are Negan's people backwoods mountain folk?

Thank you to the writers for proving this show is a hack, once and for all.

So I stopped watching previously, came back and quit again before the mid-season finale. I read this thread just to see how it's going, and wow...sounds like a huge cop out. I'd be curious to see if people actually stop watching or not.
