When he is in the minors, his arbitration clock is paused. They would have to send him down for about 2 months to gain an extra year. I don't think that has much bearing on his situation though.

It would make sense. White was the best of the guys specifically auditioning for the job, but White is still a rookie and Marwin has paid his dues and has looked great in the spring. Maybe White is just the backup 1B but gets more starts than your typical backup gets (since Marwin also plays all over the place).
