People pray for whatever they want. It's not for you to judge whats important and not important. Shows how narrow-minded you are. People pray for their job interview? People pray to do well on an exam the next day? Why, when there's a war going on in Syria and people are dying? Doing well on a job interview or an exam is trivial when people just trying to survive. Why should millionaire nba players pray (to get what they want), when there are a lot less fortunate people? That's basically what you're saying.
