Universal healthcare cutting tariffs that kill US jobs. raising taxes on wallstreet. These are all things Trump wants to do and I approve. Establishment republicans would call all those socialist ideas.
And I sincerely doubt he'll be the last dumbass opinionated celebrity who makes a deep run for the presidency. He's setting a precedent. Kanye 2020!
You cant be called a Socialist but want to build walls, block religious groups, and punish women for getting abortions. Sanders and Clinton want to tax Wallstreet as well. So why not vote for people who are going to do the good things without all the racism and xenophobia.
Why not exactly? Are you saying that socialist countries and historically socialist leaders/politicians around the world have been for full open immigration with no restrictions and have universally been pro-choice? I'm not really sure that any of those issues you just cited are something that fall into a universal socialist platform.
No there's a difference between socialist which has been used an attack against Bernie Sanders and "Democratic" Socialist the two aren't the same. Donald Trump is not a Democratic Socialist.
Because Clinton (and probably a criminal) is all talk and Sanders doesn't have a chance. It sucks that Trump feels that way about illegals and muslims but frankly that doesn't effect me and i'm tired of defending the rights of people who can't even muster up the support for people like Sanders. This is the bed lazy people who don't vote have made.
You said you can't be called a socialist if you want to do those things listed. I think that is highly inaccurate. Plenty of countries that are considered Socialist or Democratic Socialist take hard stands on immigration, plenty of Socialist or Democratic Socialist countries that take varying degrees of stances on abortion, etc. Not all socialists are the same as the American left's version of socialism. Socialism doesn't mean you support amnesty, no voter ids and abortion on demand. Those are all ancillary issues that happen to have been co-opted by the American left which is also the base of the socialist leanings.
Trump has proposed nationalizing health care, a wealth tax of 15%, raising taxes on income, etc. When he is pushed to give an answer to issues he generally offers up some sort of central government solution. His position on education is basically a centralized government run education system that is state-run. (LOL) Being a nationalist, a racist, a misogynist, etc. do not prevent you from being a socialist or a democratic socialist. The truth is that Trump cannot be fit into any one box. He's more a strongman, cult of personality type leader but his economic and governmental world views definitely lead heavily in favor of state run, state planned, centralized power, etc.
The implications here are highly offensive and aristocratic. I know a lot of stupid ignorant people that have degrees. I have a degree from UT that cost quite a bit of money and I know the real value it has in the real world. Maybe the reason that correlation exists is because those people feel like Trump is the one that actually cares about them. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist and the the greatest trick Republicans ever pulled was convincing the middle class and more that they cared about them economically. They got the group because of social issues like anti-civil rights laws and held them with issues like abortion and gay marriage. Make your own judgements on the party but I don't feel like it's completely insane to say that they are more focused on legislation that eases financial restrictions on the rich in the hope that the savings will trickle down to everyone else like this country is a fish tank. A lot of people that are used to voting republican are getting wise and don't see the answer to their problems in the G.O.P. even though the party has done such a good job at blocking and slamming Obama. I don't believe this is a partisan organization. http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/analysis-ted-cruzs-tax-plan The plan would cut taxes at most income levels, although the highest-income households would benefit the most and the poor the least. Federal tax revenues would decline by $8.6 trillion (3.6 percent of gross domestic product) over a decade. I have my doubts about the accuracy of the numbers, especially now with increased Sanders support, but it was posted in response to a post by SF3isBack that the Trump folks were poorly educated. So were you offended by that post? And, yes, I too know a number of highly educated, but not too bright people. On the left and the right.
The poll results were from September 2015. A lot has happened since then. Int he actual primaries that have happened we've seen Trump's support be strongly tied to non college educated. Who could forget that Trump loves the poorly educated?
There is a big difference between autocratic socialism and democratic socialism. The Soviet Union was autocratic, the people never had a say in what monies they want collected or how it was to be distributed. You don't do anything in democratic socialism without a majority of the people's representatives voting on it. Mr. Trump has always run his organizations in an autocratic fashion. I don't think he has ever even had to answer to a board of directors. A lot of his businesses were cash up front endeavors, collecting development fees and licensing fees where he really doesn't even care about the long term viability. I think he would find great frustration with the complications of government. Remember, the Commander-In- Chief can't even close down a military prison.
The uneducated didn't become educated between September and now. I think the problem here are deceptive choices in how to present poll data. One, the tables leave off people with postgraduate degrees. Two, the data seems to reflect hypothetical general election races, conflating education level with party affiliation to hide an education gap. Of course, I suspect there's some art going into interpretations that his voter base is uneducated as well. I did find this one interesting article that says education and other demographic data doesn't predict a Trump voter, but those with tendencies toward authoritarianism is a big predictor: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/01/donald-trump-2016-authoritarian-213533. (I find this pretty interesting because I think I have authoritarian tendencies, but don't find Trump appealing at all.)
