I loathe Trump and everyone in his orbit is scum, but this looks like pretty tame stuff (although hard to tell from video how forceful he was with grip, etc, she did have bruises) <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Breaking: CCTV video shows Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski pulling a reporter, which he denied <a href="https://t.co/Z1tFdVPnlh">https://t.co/Z1tFdVPnlh</a></p>— Mashable News (@MashableNews) <a href="https://twitter.com/MashableNews/status/714832056518316033">March 29, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I agree, it mostly seems like a non-event and that the reporter was more offended than injured by the treatment. I think the reporter bringing charges is actually pretty unprofessional and I'm not surprised that her employer wouldn't back her up. It was also an unprofessional way for the campaign manager to disengage her from a conversation he didn't want her to have, but I have a hard time believing that it is uncommon for people in his position. She probably should have grinned and bore it, and complained to her dog when she got home. Anyway, it does fit the legal description and it's her right to file charges even if she's shooting herself in the foot. In the end, it'll probably damage the reporter's career more than the campaign manager's.
You apologize and none of this would happened. Instead, Trump lied and Breitbart went to find dirt on their own reporter to try to discredit her. Remember how absurd their denial was, and how it is now. This is what this is about. both of them deserve everything that is coming to them. Michelle Fields wants to "destroy" her career over integrity? Good. Most people don't have the balls. I get the feeling that her journalistic career will only pick up for those that value honesty.
Exactly. If Lewandowski says something immediately after along the lines of "I was simply trying to clear the way for Trump to exit the building. Any excessive force was unintentional, yada yada yada" then this blows over and Fields looks like someone trying to play victim. Instead, the entire campaign doubled down ("I've never even met you?!") and we're here now. Hell, they are STILL lying and denying that he was arrested, when the police spokesperson has confirmed that Corey was. People like that bring this sort of stuff on themselves.
Unless we want to say that, when she got home after the incident, she had her bodybuilder brother forcefully grab her arm so that it could leave fingerprint bruises.....and then she could claim it was Trump's goon who did it.... Then these clowns keep going into complete deniability mode. Yes, it didn't look like much on the video, and since the video doesn't show much, who knows what will happen in court (if anything); but this is dangerously close to "victim's fault" logic.
Is Trump deliberately trying to ruin his campaign? I can't understand why he would deny this happened or that his campaign manager was arrested (to be fair, he turned himself in). I mean, its on film for all to watch. It's bizarre.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/trump-campaign-manager-faces-new-allegations-of-pushing-sexu There is also talk among Trump’s traveling press corps about his behavior toward women.*Politico*first reported that Lewandowski has made “sexually suggestive” comments to female journalists that one recipient described as “completely inappropriate in a professional setting.” In conversations with reporters, he has expressed frustration with female journalists covering the campaign while also voicing a wish to have sex with them. And sources told BuzzFeed News that more than once, Lewandowski has called female reporters late at night to come on to them, often not sounding entirely sober. Some in the press corps joke that if Lewandowski is calling after a certain hour, women are better off not answering.
None of this should surprise anyone, even his supporters. 1. Start with a demagogue 2. Demogogue assumes self > all (or the vast majority). (Exhibit A: Trump tweeting several years ago that most americans are "****ing stupid.") 3. Misogynist assumes men > women, in general. And women are just sex objects, first, and anything else, last. 4. Ergo demogogue (and senior staff) assume selves >> women. (Shrug). If America doesn't care, it doesn't care, and we can't make our fellow citizens care. I care, and it will influence my vote, for sure. If people think Obama is arrogant, I... just don't even know what to tell them about Trump.
I think he's been trying to do this almost from the get-go. But the more he tries to torpedo it, the more his followers adore him. It's almost like he's testing his supporters just to see how much they'll let him get away with before they stop supporting him. And he has yet to reach that point with any of them. Far from it, actually. This primary has been the last straw for me. 4 years ago, I predicted the tea party would flush out all the extreme wackos from the GOP and it would emerge a lean, mean party ready to take back the WH by this presidential election. But now it seems to have done the exact opposite. The inmates have truly taken over the asylum. If Trump and Cruz are really the best we can do, then I'm done. I'm not voting for either one of these buffoons.
There's no excusing the way Trump's campaign has tried to deny anything ever happened. And, I'm not saying she wasn't genuinely bruised. Just thinking about the political and career dynamics. Most of the time, someone grabbed like that, even overzealously enough to cause bruising, isn't going to file a police report and publish about how they were assaulted. It just seems like the dynamic at Breitbart and the way Trump has of making things crazier than they'd normally be, created a situation to blow this story up beyond the reasonable bounds. I'm not blaming her for asking to be assaulted; I'm annoyed this is considered newsworthy. I wish her the best of luck in bringing the perp to justice; her evidence looks rock solid.
if someone was assaulted by you own admission especially after the responsible party is denying anything ever happened, the norm is to file a report not the other way around...
Not really. People have pulled me by the arm many times and I never filed a police report. The police aren't usually the recourse for people who get into minor altercations. I'm not saying she was wrong to do it, only that its more formal and confrontational than one would usually see in an arm-pulling incident. My thought is that it won't be good for her because people will see it as a nuisance charge even with (or especially with) a conviction, making it harder for her as a journalist. But, I will make a note not to pull your arms if I don't want legal trouble in my future. Some people, I suppose, are more likely to involve the cops than others.
Precisely. I came in here to post very similar thoughts. I'll also add that Michelle initially did NOT want to go to the police and file a report. She simply wanted an apology from Lewandowski. If he had apologized, things wouldn't have escalated to this point in the first place...the non-story would have quickly died and everyone would have moved on. It's when Lewandowski and Trump lied and tried to publicly smear Fields that she changed her mind and went to the police...her reputation was at stake.
Trump HAS to become president for the sake of this country. Either Trump or we slowly see the collapse of the United States.
I'm one of the biggest conservatives on this forum. As a result, I will never vote for a piece of trash like Donald Trump. I'm not a fascist.
