I have to ask of those who support an increase in the minimum wage but do NOT support deportation of 10+ million illegal immigrants, why?
No one knows what a post automated society will look like. Quit wetting your panties and pretending the sky is falling. The key point here is that living off two jobs in the current min wage and now getting that big raise will certainly not ruin the "natural order" in a place like California where the standard of living is a ridiculous 2,100 rent for a small 1 room apt or an extra dollar per gallon of gas compared to Houston. Nor should there be a delusion that they're now considered middle class even if the family provides 4 min wage jobs priced at 15/hr. Pretty sick thoughts of tearing down your neighbor while the insanely wealthy live in a number and lifestyle beyond any comprehensible scale.
Economic: Increase in welfare by equilibrating labour share of income vastly overpaces the near-null effect of illegal immigration on wages. (we talked about this but you refuse to listen to reason or facts). Moral: Increasing the minimum wage increases welfare for the destitute and helps build strong families, deportation tears apart families.
Generally supportive of the minimum wage hike as a basic protection, but it doesn't really do anything to enhance the bargaining power of workers or make their work more valuable, so it won't do much to fix anything.
Supply and demand. EDIT: Let's say Northside is correct and illegal immigrants have some kind of positive effect on "the economy". Then why is anyone who supports illegal immigration also supporting an increase in the minimum wage? Take away the 10+ million illegal immigrants and two things will happen: Demand for housing will decrease = rent and home prices drop Supply of labor will increase = wages rise
yeah, in this case, the gains you get from supply and demand working out from minimum wage increases (as seen in various meta-analyses) are significantly more than any dynamics on supply and demand from illegal immigration in the labour market. You can say the words in theory--have you ever read papers on how that empirically shaked out? hint: at least think in terms of elasticities, you'll go from Econ 101 to Econ 102.
Do you agree that raising it puts more dollars in peoples pockets? These folks would have more spending money to contribute to the economy. The more they spend, the more profits the companies have and they can hire more people. The middle/poor class is the engine the makes the economy thrive. More fuel for the engine, the better.

Agreed, that was the point of my post. The economic gains from raising the minimum wage affect far more than just the people earning that wage. Many others in the lower third of the income distribution also see benefits from MW hikes.
Probably a lot tougher of a job than the bs you sit at a desk and do. It's a liveable wage. All the justification you need. Someone working 40 hrs a week should be able to pay for things like rent, bills, child expenses, food, etc
