The John Oliver cite was quoted from another source, the CBO maybe. But you haven't even begun to think of the practical issues of building a 1900 mile long wall including: tributary intersections to the Rio Grande with established water rights laws in place, Environmental issues sure to reach the Supreme Court, literally thousands of Eminent Domain cases that have to be settled through the courts knowing every owner will challenge them, effects on the national concrete supply competing with every other road, bridge and construction project boosting their costs; and the fact that it wouldn't stop tunnels and ladders. The whole proposal is childish and ludicrous and was rejected as impractical by the Bush administration. And, net migrations are going down. It's like a part of this nation's voters are 6th graders.
Hmm, seems ill informed. I am actually interested in what we spend on border security and what effect an actual wall would have on that budget. Based on my experience with chain link fence surrounding my incredible lawn, a precast wall would be far less maintenance. Great barrier for fungus, weeds and crawling rhizomes. I have heard him say precast forms will be used so my guess is he was naming the raw materials in those. Not an expert but I assume they are bolted together, thus the steel.
It was the CBO https://www.cbo.gov/ I don't really understand the maintenance costs either but it would be a stretch to call the CBO ill informed. They are the experts at these kinds of estimates...though usually low. The Oliver report also talked about all the land use, environmental and personal ownership laws that were invalidated to build the 700 miles of were that was built (finished under Obama). How does that sit with the Bundy's and tea party people?
I thought it was clear I called your post ill informed. Especially that you stepped in to answer someone else question.
This whole debate is the stupidest debate I've seen. Cato has tons of data on how immigrants don't commit more crimes than natives, and economic analyses show immigrants have a near-null effect on wages. More Mexicans are leaving the US to go back to Mexico now than vice versa. The fact that this debate is even happening is like watching dogwalkers debate the relative merits of dogs**t. If Trump and Americuh were serious about saving jerbs, the economic plus/minus of walling off lower Manhattan and everything from SOMA to San Jose is much more compelling.
Like most Republican talking points it is 25-35 years too late.... Addressing illegal immigration before the second and in some cases third generation were entrenched would have been the smarter tactic. Not sure why they don't just go after blacks and Muslims exclusively, the Hispanics have acculturated fairly quickly.
i think the wall is stupid but i really hate half truths being presented by truths and in this regard john oliver is no different than trump. i used to really like oliver's approach but lately his truth has been more narrative than i like. it's his right sure, but it's also mine to agree, disagree, watch, or not. i wish he would go back to criticizing the government and bureaucracy as a whole instead of individuals politicians.
FBI data tend to show that non-legal aliens comprise a disproportionate share of the imprisoned alien population. Also, high school economics teaches that an increase in supply of a good or service drives down the price of that good or service. Fortunately for you such questions of fundamental economics weren't present on your visa application. BTW, there is more to the US economy than just NYC and Silicon Valley.
Interesting quote - fits well with many rise to power. Like Hitler - who was first ignored, then literally laughed at, then they fought him, and then he won and became Chancellor. Very apt quote for Trump. Well, winning the Republican nomination at least.

Of course you are too brain dead to realize that a comparison of Hitler's rise to power to how Trump operates does not equate to asserting that one is the other. By that logic, I could claim you just said Trump was Gandhi. Do you understand what a logically fallacy is?
well YEAH because they're ILLEGAL did high school English not teach you what a tautology is? And unfortunately, I suffered through several rounds of undergrad and Masters-level Economics--so don't make the same mistake I did. I wasn't aware that Missourians were dominating New York jerbs or Silicon Valley jerbs en masse with their robotosofdoom
Where did you come from RocketsLegend? You have really added to the conversation around here lately... wow
