I agree with you. Apples and oranges, but we live in a big f'ing glass house though, no?

We're going to get righteous about jailing people over a roach clip while Cuba imprisons people who demonstrate against the government? Okay.

Not just imprisoning, they still use firing squads.

Again I'm for change. just crazy to see this turning into a party.

Well, the last 50 years didn't effect much change, and we have bigger fish to fry anyway, TBH. That's my read on Obama's thinking, but who knows. Maybe he just wants a nice trip to Cuba.

Obama wouldn't even shake those baseball players' hands except with a net in between them. That b*stard.

And in front of him is the Jose Martí Memorial. But asking you to focus on what everybody in the picture is actually facing would be too much to ask.

Absolutely disgusting picture of Obama in front of the Che.

The ignorant youth like to look at him as some kind of rebellious leader, but he was a murderer and homophobe so not somebody to look up to.

It's because the embargo is a dumb idea that accomplished nothing. Castro outlived everyone and the regime is more than intact. In fact, the regime used the embargo as an excuse for everything that is wrong in Cuba.

Obama is now more popular in Cuba than either Castro. That says something. The winds of change will hit them soon as well. The restoration of diplomatic relations has had a more positive impact in just a few months than decades of the embargo.

Of course the regime is terrible but anyone with some common sense saw how counterproductive the embargo is. We've been unintentionally propping up the regime this whole time. So yes lets celebrate. We're actually giving the Cuban people some hope that things will change for the better.

I'm happy about what Obama is doing. The embargo never made sense as long as I've been alive, but reversing American policy was always going to cost whomever more political capital than it was probably worth. The timing is good too, with Raul so old. They need an orderly reformation to modernize their economic and political structures. Obama takes the hit -- but half the country thinks he's a communist anyway -- and the next president, Republican or Democrat, will be able to reap the rewards by being in place to influence how Cuba reacts after Raul's death.

In what way? You only desperately want one of them to be a communist?

    Not the same? How so?

A US President goes to an authoritarian nation to thaw relations and is pictured in front of that nation's philosophical hero who is vilified as a murderer in the US.

    pretty much the same
