The concept of Batman vs Superman itself is stupid. Superman should crush him without a glance but they needed money and were out of real ideas.
Waiting for Dave2000's spoiler-filled review. I say if the movie is below 7/10, just tell us what happens. Could save a lot of people a lot of money. I don't mind spoilers, I like going into movies knowing the ending. Don't like surprises.
Enough reviews are in that you can conclude this is likely a mediocre movie. DC has tried to go with the serious route, and if you are gonna do that the movie better be awesome. I really was never too excited for this after MOS, so this isn't a huge disappointment for me. May see it in theaters, but I'll probably wait to redbox it.
What happened to all of the people that loved it, supposedly, on Twitter? This movie might be one of those "critics hate it, general audience loves it" type movies. I'd probably still go see it even if it's "rotten."
Seems like the real reviewers are all saying it's a better film than MoS, but that it's just a hugely ambitious project to make into an even film. That's fair enough.
I stood in line for about five hours too. And my expectations were sky high so I am absolutely biased. My review? There are things to like and things to love but overall it was a let-down for the same reasons Man of Steel was. I've never looked forward to a movie so much in my life but I think Snyder blew it. I had no faith in Affleck when he was cast but he was as great as the script and director allowed him to be. Same for Gadot. Many have raved about Eisenberg. I'm not with them. I found him dull. And I felt Jeremy Irons was absolutely wasted. This may have been the best Batman we've seen but it was also the most bland Alfred. Seeing Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman on screen, fighting together, was a real thrill. Otherwise, as it has been with my bias toward superheroes in the past, it was a let-down. The only superhero movie I've ever truly loved was The Dark Knight and that was all about Ledger. Even in that film I found the Two-Face parts and the ending to be trite. I guess the rule is the same for book adaptations... You can almost always rely on the book being better than the movie. In this case, Batman v Superman is a completely original story (barely any Dark Knight Returns influence at all and none on the plot), that is inferior to dozens and dozens of stories they've shared in the comic books. I might see it again but I thought for sure I'd be dying to watch it again as soon as it was over. On the contrary I was ready to get home and be done with it. Sorry I can't give a more positive report.
The people filing out of the screening I was at DID love it. Overheard in various ways from various people: 'If you don't care about comics you'll still like it a lot. If you love comics it will be the best thing you've ever seen.' Sorry. I disagree. I'm with the RT metre: 40% sounds about right.
Should I see it or nah? I'm getting more sad by each review. Might not be something the gf wants to be dragged into. She's tolerated my obsession with superhero movies and been very patient in going to see them with me. If this one sucks and takes 2.5 hours, she might get really upset.
Expectations could never be matched by reality. These horrible reviews make me more interested to see it. Before, I had very little to no interest.
It was good not great. My gripe about it was that this was a huge teaser towards Justice League next November instead of a solo movie with hints of JL forming. Acting was fine, Affleck, Gadot, Esienberg had no issues with them. Not enough Superman vs. Batman run, but the gigantic ending scene made up for it. One thing worth mentioning, the writers did something BOLD enough that I didn't think DC would let them do it. Fwiw, by comparison, I loved Dark Knight, I'm in the minority that Superman Returns was just as good as Man of Steel. I'd give it in the RT 60% range, it's worth the watch, just don't set expectations so high. Spoiler a rep before the movie begged not to post spoilers, hell even before the movie started, there was a Zack Snyder clip that begged not to post spoilers either take that for what it's worth I figured it out about 90 mins in the movie The scene that made them realize they are fighting for the wrong reason was pretty dumb, the fact that a common name realization, saved a superhero's life.... the cameos from the other JL members was short and sweet btw Batman Jones, were u at the Edwards Marquee screening also?
