Some people thought that, but not everyone was fooled into thinking that. Some people overrated his occasional flashy blocks between missed rotations and awful defensive possessions. Some people overrated him making wide open dunks and fooled themselves into thinking that meant he had promise.

I was "right" then and I'm "right" now.

That doesn't mean I'll be "right" about the next player or situation, but you can't change the past. No one is "right" all the time, so just accept that you and some others bought the "fool's gold" and move on with life.

    Oh look... you again.

I don't care about clues that a player might get beat out eventually, or that he will suck majorly a year from now. I care about what that player is currently producing until they are outproduced by another player. I could care less about TJones' clues that he would suck this year. Take credit for having an NBA crystal ball if you want. Have at it bubba.

I'm glad that you'll find warm company being tagged with Bobbythegreat and Jopat. However if you are trying to say that the 3 of you speak for everyone I beg to differ unless everyone else wants to chime in and tell me otherwise.

I think you just explained why you ended up completely wrong. When you have an extremely short sighted view of things, often you will look foolish in the long run as you did in this instance.

Hopefully you learn something from this.

He was merely an average player his first 3 years and had a rash on injuries in that 3rd. He regressed to the point he was unplayable in his contract year.

A broken clock is right twice a day. There was nothing to suggest Jones would regress this much unless you took his bizarre nerve injury into consideration.

He gave some the impression that he was an average player his first few years, but he never really was. When you look at things in a short sighted manner, you can be fooled that way.

You say that there was "nothing to suggest that Jones would regress this much", yet people were saying all along that there were signs that he wasn't as good as raw numbers suggested that he was.....so there were signs, you just ignored them or weren't able to see them.

You simply can't say that there was no way of knowing when there were multiple people that knew all along.

dobro is right. And I always preferred DMo from the very beginning. But dobro is absolutely right. No one could predict Jones' fall off this year. It has to be something physical. The extreme anti-Jones club never predicted this kind of a fall off. They were making the assertion that his production in the 2 prior years was not good enough to keep him in the NBA. I agreed with everybody that Jones' defense against Aldridge was too bad for him to be in the rotation here. But he was clearly good enough in other ways to be in the rotation on some NBA team.

Also, the classic Jones=lesser Howard came from coachbadlee back when we drafted Jones. Apparently, he thinks that two players with the same height & weight are bound to get the same production. Should be a scout!

A broken clock is right twice a day.

This whole debate centered around TJ vs DMo. People with agendas picked a side and stuck with their guns.

You keep saying that, but it doesn't make you any less wrong. People spelled out exactly why Jones was "fool's gold" from just about the very beginning and those things ended up being exactly accurate.....I know you want to pretend that was just "luck" or whatever, but that's not the case.

From almost the very beginning people were saying that Jones derived nearly 100% of his game from athleticism and that he showed no development when it came to the mental side of the game and that he hadn't developed a shot and that he couldn't make proper rotations on defense to save his life.

Those who defended Jones only saw flash. They saw flashy wide open dunks that others would set him up for and concluded that he was a good offensive player. They saw occasional flashy blocks and concluded that he was a good defensive player. That kind of short sighted BS is what made people look foolish for passionately defending a fairly terrible basketball player.

You were wrong, others were right, get over it. Maybe next time you'll be the one to see things early on and others will miss it, that's just how it goes.

I was never in the Dmo vs Tjones wars, I like them both, I like DMo better but I think TJones can play in the right system.

Just not one with a ball dominant player like Harden, Tjones is a dribble attack player, which is great on occasion, but for the most part, the dribbling is done by Harden...thus he really did not fit, whereas Dmo can play off the ball for catch and shoot, or post up, which does fit.

AND, which is why I have been saying DMo is the key to turning around this team - as a super role player - or rather his STYLE of game is....

Don't know about everyone but I have some connections, yes. In this instance I play poker with a couple of surgeons that clued me in that he was pretty much fine, just needed to get in shape - which is why I was soooo pissed off that we traded him when I knew he could help.

Forget TJones v Dmo... we got rid of the real power forward that could have done something... ROYCE WHITE.

I am kidding. Don't ban me.

Sure sure. You were the one who called him a garbage player when he was merely average.

Still talking Jones in a Motiejunas thread? Some guys never learn

Jones was a prospect like Jeremy Lamb was. That is all there is to it.

I liked him when he was with the Vipers in Rio Grande where they play no D.

He was called in playing for the first team. He has done that, had some good games and bad games. Regressed and had weird injuries.

All there is to it. All the other BS is just to prove your point when there is no point.

Jones can salvage his own career somewhere else, depending on his health, his willpower.

    There is still time.

    Pretty much this.

I don't understand his spin that "we were all wrong"

No one is asking for credit for being right. But it's time that those who were wrong to sit down and talk about the basketball rather than hold onto personal vendettas.

You said Dmo was a special player which he was but not that special.

You could find a dozen 6'10 or 6'11 in Europe, in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, and in the South

They can all be your type of SUPER GLUE Player, move the ball well, move well without the ball, be skilled in the post and so on.

That is what they call EuroBall! Not everyone can shoot NBA 3 pters though

TJones was a good cutter, a face up player who could put the ball on the floor, and played well around the rim. I disagree that his strengths didn't fit but ultimately injuries and/or lack of improvement caused him to regress to the point he's no longer viable off the bench.

DMo had the tools but needed to get strong and needed to get use to the pace of the NBA, which is why he took longer to get significant playing time compared to TJones.

In the end, DMo successfully worked hard enough that he is a great piece in the starting line up or a 6th man (in my opinion).

The issue was DMo being in a contract year with a back issue that will occasionally flare up. SVG compared DMo's issue to what JJ Reddick has, which causes him to miss several games each season. Long story short, DMo's issue will have occasional flare ups and how much do you want to pay a 7 footer with that type of issue.

What's the max you think DMo should get in his contract?

Good post. Straight to the point, fair and without all of the _______.

To continue with the truth, there is not a single player at the power forward/center position on this team who is currently talented enough to turn this season/franchise around. Not one guy, and nobody is happy about it. Collectively, they can put up some good numbers, but even Dwight is a lingering second option at best.

Guys like LaMarcus,Kevin,Boogie,Towns,AD and Horford are not signed to the Rockets. We'll have to wait until free agency or a trade to improve ourselves at the 4.

I don't think anyone is holding it against you that For thinking that DMO was some of X factor. Sure he was ultimately irrelevant to last season, but enough of the persecution complex.

Dude is going to stay in the NBA because he works hard rather than how talented he is, how skilled his post moves are, how tall he is ....

This wasn't a predictable loss of athleticism - not at his young age. I swear if Jones had been run over by a bus - God forbid - you and holic would claim credit for predicting he wouldn't stay in the league. Ridiculous
