Durant is one thing. You are pretty much in his court for making a decision.

Boogie is another. He's locked in long term, and there is virtually no way the Rockets can compete with the likes of the Celtics, and many other teams with significantly more assets than the Rockets.

That's probably a big reason why Morey was eager to make the D-Mo deal. I think he knew that he can't compete in the trade market anytime soon, and had to start getting some better picks.

Rockets are screwed at center next season. With dwight gone I wonder who will backup Clint?

The Pacers are surviving with Ian Mahinmi & a rookie in their frontcourt. The Blazers with Mason Plumlee & Ed Davis. The Grizzlies front line hasn't been healthy all year for the most part.

I think the Rockets will do fine without Dwight. If they can get D-Mo back on a value contract, Clint (of course), Harrell, Beasley, and maybe another free agent signing, they will be okay on the front court. The thing that will make them okay vs good will be the health of D-Mo, and the growth of Harrell & Capela.

However I would be surprised if they didn't make a run at another big in free agency regardless. They won't admit it, but I would have to think that Horford will be higher on their list than Dwight & right behind Durant if not a package deal.

Screwed is a strong word. Especially considering the state, and state of importance, of the center in the NBA today.

Consider the Mavericks seemed "screwed" last offseason with the DeAndre Jordan fiasco... but still ended up with Zaza Pachulia, who they got via trade for a second round pick. "But he sucks!" you say. Not really. I mean I get you aren't relying on him for anything, and he's nto exactly Mr. Enforcer down low... but finally on a solid system team, he's putting up 113 Ortg and 104 Drt. These are good numbers. His per 36 numbers are good, etc.

With Dwight gone, and some other maneuvers, the Rockets will have a lot of cap room to try and fill the center spot. Or they can legitimately give it to Clint, and fill other spots such that Clint will be fine there, or whatever.

Losing Dwight is NO PROBLEM. Not being able to trade him at the deadline was a HUGE PROBLEM. Couldn't get a single useful asset for him for 2016/17 and beyond SUCKS.

Yeah, whether you want to call it OK, or GOOD, Clint + DMo + Beasley + Harrell, regardless of how healthy DMo is, is not attractive.

Per my last post, I'm not concerned about losing Dwight. But the overall play of the frontcourt needs to improve a lot. Even with Dwight this is true.

So whether Horford, Ezeli, or something else, FA or trade... it needs to be legitimately beefed up.

My preference is for a legitimate PF threat that can consistently be so everynight.

Offense and defense seem to click on this team when there's a PF that's playing well, regardless of what Dwight does.

In changed NBA marketplace, Howard still has value

Former All-Star big man Dwight Howard can help a team -- just don't expect him to dominate like he did in days of old

Horford's max (for years of service) is 25M per. Same as KD's. You can justify maxing Horford because his game will age better (than Howard's) since he has a jump-shot, even out of 3pt range. He can create space for Harden. Lots of value there.

Codman, how about Dwight going to Atlanta and Horford coming to Houston. Good for both teams. :)

yeah thanx for that. Horford is not 30 per he's around 25-27 per.

as for Boogie..that proposal is ludicrous. Not only we dont' have assets to even get to the conversation about trading for him, but also Boogie was irritated and angry with IT for taking too much usg and shots.
Don't think he would be so happy joining the Rockets to play next to Harden.

Thanks. I was quoting what I had seen (it was on the innertubes, so how could it have been wrong?).

I guess I should clarify that I certainly don't think they are going to be competing for a title anytime soon with that front-line, but I don't think they are with Dwight either. Maybe the past 3 years, but not in the near future the way Dwight's play is trending.

I have to say too that while I say that "Indiana is OKAY without a legit frontline" and "The Blazers are OKAY" without one, they certainly aren't winning the title this year, and one could say that their backcourt depth is better than the Rockets currently. You look at the true title contenders this year and their front line looks a hell of alot better than the Rockets future front line either way next year (before free agent signings).

Point being - Morey has some work to do this Summer to either bolster other parts of the roster or go out and sign another big fish because there are weaknesses at pretty much every position on the roster except for the 2.... not just the 4/5.

He's a great passer too - Horford is a way better fit than Dwight IMO.

It was written somewhere that Horford had an interest in playing for a market with a large Spanish-language population.

I admit by now, many weeks now after the trade deadline and the appearance of said information, that I don't remember if the quote was directly from him or if a reporter was speculating; but God knows Houston would give him such a market.

ROXTXIA, I remember reading that as well.

Agree with SamFisher that Horford is a solid passer.

I mean, for all the "love" the clutch boards gives Kevin Love...Horford is the even better fit. Maybe not QUITE the shooter Love is..but not bad either. But then you get Horford's defense. You can also play Horford at the end of games. He is shooting 80% at the FT line. Lots of value there.

True. We are everywhere here lol The majority of the fans on Rednation facebook page. However I don't think Horford is what we need. I do think he fits a sick San Antonio lineup. Perhaps he'd rather get paid but I feel like he's a perfect Pop piece.

I don't think he fits here. His rebounding is terrible. Can't have that with a team that is dependent on good rebounding from the 5. (7 per game/8 per 36)

Then again part of that could be because of his frontcourt teammates.
For reference Dwight gets 12 per game and 13.3 per 36. (Capela 6 per game, 12 per 36)
It's really hard to compare due to the weird per 36 values youll get from Dmo and Beasley. Not to mention Brewer/Ariza... not exactly easy to balance those stats. Plus Horford *can* space the floor, so that's probably less rebounds coming our way.

Why is everyone so high on Horford? I don't get it.
