Is he struggling or does it seem like he's working on certain pitches? Can't watch game at the moment.
worked on some change ups but the 3 run homer was a straight fastball in the middle of the plate against Batista.
For the position players for sure. However, some of the pitchers seem to need more time to work things out like Giles and Fister.
https://twitter.com/astros/status/711568354956419073 This morning, Nolan Fontana and Andrew Aplin were optioned to minor league camp; Tony Kemp was reassigned to minor league camp.
I don't think Gregerson is in shape so far after an injury, but if completely healthy to start the season, he is my closer until Giles PROVES he can pitch with the Astros.
He had 9 walks and 8 earned runs in 9IP last season. I don't get too worried about Spring Stats for guys safely on the club.
An article about the Astros exploring catching options: http://m.astros.mlb.com/news/article/168254682/max-stassis-injury-has-astros-exploring-moves Mentions a lot of no names the team may look at as waiver claims should they not make their teams. More notable to me was Tags comments on Gattis at catcher. Like the team was counting on him doing some catching. Also that Alfredo Gonzalez was not mentioned, despite being the other catcher on the 40-man roster (I'd be curious why he was optioned to minor league camp and the team kept Heineman & Pena).
But he's a backup catcher, so working with the MLB pitchers would be most important. The team felt it necessary to protect him from the Rule 5 draft over Heineman and Pena, but somehow feels Gonzalez isn't ready to even cover 2 -3 weeks of backup duty?
