Is anyone surprised that inflammatory rhetoric precipitates escalating violence? polarizes viewpoints? hardens the positions on both sides? At first I though Trump was a caricature of Rovian tactics, but too many people don't get the joke. This is not going to end well for American politics or civility in general.
I've brought this up before but Ted Cruz has run a very strategic campaign. He's staked out a strong position while letting others fight it out. In that way he's been able to be second to Trump without nearly the attention that Trump gets.
