You don't think it's a reasonable assumption? Why did he not want to come earlier and wanted to come so late in the season?

Fair enough.

I guess we have a different definition of desperation. I've always understood that desperation means acting in an extreme fashion because of hopelessness or running out of options. In that sense, I think the signing of Beasley counted as a desperate move.

The shot Damian Lillard made that killed us was a desperation shot. He took it far away from the basket and not having much time to aim because they desperately needed a basket with less than a second to go. If it was not a desperate shot, he would have been shooting it all night. Steph Curry takes that kind of shot regularly with plenty of time left. Those are not desperate shots even though they look the same as Lillard's shot.

My point was, Morey signed Beasley only because he ran out of option. Otherwise, he would have signed him earlier even when there still seemed to have other options (Jones developing, DMo healing, trading for a good PF, etc.) Those options crumpled one by one. So he took a chance on Beasley. That's desperation in my book. It's still a good move. Just like Lillard's shot was still a great shot, but a desperate shot nonetheless.

 

^^ my understanding is Beasley was set on finishing the season in China. Remember several teams were after him. I think someone else would have pulled the trigger on an offer a lot earlier, if he was open to coming back before his season ended. I think he was enjoying his situation in China and wanted to play it out, then pick a team after his season was over.
