Umm..It's their second coach this season. The FO basically admitted McHale shouldn't have been fired but they had to do something to wake up the players. The consensus around the league is that the players' crap effort got him fired..his own wife implied it. The consensus is also that JB is a competent coach.. But nah, it's the coaching. Better coaching would make them give a damn. Show a consistent lack of effort at your job and blame it on your manager and let's see who they fire. The difference is in the NBA it's easier to fire the coach than stars or multiple players.
Not necessarily in order... Goudelock wasn't winning the game for us... but he would have lessened the minutes Harden and Terry played in a blowout game. He might have also contributed an energy that might have built something going forward. A small mistake, but a mistake, none the less, and these small mistakes seem to happen all too frequently. The bigger issue... our coaching staff losing the team on offense and defense. Sure, JBB isn't a Pop or Carlisle. And that is a problem. One that has to be fixed in the off season. But Look at the coaching staff the Rockets brought in after Adelman (Pop like) and JVG (Pop like). A players head coach. With players coaches as assistants. And replacing McHale with the most "players coach" of players coaches. Big mistake. Why can't JBB call out anyone? The one brief moment of respect JBB had when he pulled the entire starting five. JBB needs to grow a pair. Is it any wonder that the team brings in Clifford Ray (crotchety old vet... was a big fan when he played with Warriors and Bulls). Tough guy. respected. And note he was the one non-player that was at the "players only meeting". Usually teams alternate between players coach and tough guy coach. Hopefully this is true in the off season. No more fist bumps, and looking lost while the players ignore him.
How many of these meeting do they need? FFS just hire a professional travel agent and they will help them decide whether to go to Bahamas or Maui or Musha Kay and find the best packages for mid May
I thought that at first, too. But Mark Berman's tweet that somewhat said he was in the meeting was probably poorly typed. Dwight's quote in the video was "The guy who made the biggest impact today I would say was Clifford Ray. He talked to us during the film session today ..." No mention of him in the meeting, just the film session chat.
I do not get this consensus, the media consensus does not mean anything to Me, since they rarely criticize coaches, his demeanor and in game substitutions are worse than McHale to the point the games are unhealthy to watch, if anything this consensus maybe coming out of kindness rather than honesty about the team. Effort, this team most of the time plays with effort, but most of the time to no avail due to the lack of inspiration during the game. Keep pointing to effort, but I do not see it, all I see has is inept coaching weighing the team down on the court. Maybe he can turn it around, there is still time, but as it stands, part of your job as a coach is not to get your team mad when you point out effort when your coaching has been poor to mediocre on the court. Push the right buttons, and do not side with your player only because he is your superstar and he could possibly be in the wrong when it comes to the Lil B situation at the moment.
What's the Vegas line for the Minnesota game. I wonder if they have factored in Bev's insider knowledge, yet.
Part of the problem may be with Bickerstaff and his demeanor and personality as a coach. Knowing how to get your teams attention, respect, and when to call them out, or not, has a lot to do with those two things when being a coach.
Perhaps, and it makes sense if it was a players only meeting. But Berman tweeted twice about Ray being in the meeting in two different tweets (though both quoting Dwight Howard).
Insider reports claim the Rockets brought up lot of complaints about Harden during the meeting, but he was unable to defend himself.
