They can ask & hope & wish but I doubt they get both. 1st or 2nd or 3rd? Absolutely. 1st AND a 2nd? Absolutely not. Yes, 3rd or 4th round pick for an All-Pro franchise LT! Even if he is 31 going on 32 (December). Why hasn't anyone robbed Cleveland yet?!
If they can redo the deal and minimize the cap hits as JR's article states above, that would make it much more palatable. I still wouldn't want to give up more than a 2nd and, say, a 5th.
OT from Thomas; some suggested Mike Wallace. Most adept at stopping the run, Allen missed all of 2015 with a torn Achilles' tendon. The 2012 seventh rounder has always struggled in coverage
Obviously if a trade is made, its with this front office/coaching staff's presumption that either Brown won't be the same after his major injury, Newton is going to regress, and/or both. I agree with what you said regarding the draft... but that only works if the starters are at full strength. I just want the conditions to be ideal to give Brock the best chance to succeed... he's literally the best QB prospect they've had since David Carr, and while we all know David's work ethic was a question mark, there will always be a "what if" factor if he had ended up on a team with a decent line and had a chance to sit behind a legit QB to understand what it would take to make it in this league.
got it. I've assumed they'll both be relatively fine at least for the upcoming season, and bringing someone in should be for the future of the LT spot
I don't think there is a chance they go after joe Thomas, but just to be clear, it may not just be about depth. There is a good chance that Chris Clark of Jeff Adams are starting at tackle for a majority of next year. People should ale up about brown. The Texans have brought back two swing tackles and are still exploring the tackle market. That's a huge red flag
Tackle is probably the 1st thing addressed in the draft. Conklin would be a steal, Spriggs would be great.
I like that they brought back Clark. You obviously need a swing tackle. He's great insurance on Brown, has starting experience on both sides, and you saw him do it in this system last year. Well worth it. who's the 2nd swing tackle? Everything I've read on Adams is that he doesn't have the mobility to play tackle--similar to Bergstrom not having enough for guard. I feel like we've gotten a lot less flexible with the acquisitions. Also, I haven't heard that we're actually exploring the tackle market. Is anyone reporting with certainty that they were ever in on Okung or have poked on Thomas, or has it just been us? You certainly might be right on Duane. But I don't know that the signs you're pointing to are real at this point.
Jeff Adams cannot play guard. He's proven that. Most of the analysts I've heard on the radio have said you can get by with him at tackle, but as a guard he has been abysmal. Aaron Wilson, the only insider that covers the Texans, has confirmed that the Texans are monitoring the tackle market and there have been varying levels of interest in Okung reported by a couple of sources. At the very least we can deduce that they reached out to him. As for WR, I'm not convinced that the Texans are really looking for a legit #2. McClain has pimped that narrative but to me it seems unlikely. Strong probably can't play the slot, so if you go get a legit #2 WR with the first pick you have essentially made Strong a 4th WR/inactive for another year. That means you flushed multiple picks to get him. I DO think the Texans want a WR, but I think what they want is a guy who can return kicks and play in different sets; outside, slot, etc., and can run the route tree.
