I've expressed my POV many times here. I've been called a germ in response. My POV on Lin this year has been as follows: - Lin signed on with the Hornets to be a backup guard with a coach who understands his game, and so far he appears to have been treated fairly and in-line with expectations. For the first time since he was with GSW in his rookie year, he is on a team that has a legitimate starting PG, so his role as backup is justified. The idea that Ronnie Price and Jordan Clarkson were better than Lin on the Lakers, or Patrick Beverley (whom I like) on the Rockets, is IMHO ridiculous. Beverley was a better fit to play next to Harden, but as a PG he lacks too much to be a real starting PG on a team that doesn't have a ball-dominant SG. And at least with the Knicks they kept him as starter even after D'Antoni left. - Despite having a subpar offensive season, Lin has played well overall. His versatility has helped the team deal with injuries at multiple positions, and even with a subpar offensive performance this season he has been among the better guards off the bench in the NBA this season. He has improved his defensive game this year and has been one of his team's top 3 defenders on a team that plays good defense. And in general, he has been a solid contributor to the Hornets' winning season. - The idea that Lin was the main/primary reason why the Rockets lost to Portland in the playoffs that year is flat out wrong. Did he make a big mistake that contributed to that loss by not calling time out? Yes. Is that the main reason why they lost the series? No...there were many other factors, like Harden having a subpar series in the first 3 games, Parsons getting owned by Batum, Lillard making an unbelievable shot, etc. The only Rocket to show up consistently in that series was Dwight.
Lin's offense has been subpar (tho not completely awful considering how much he has been able to get to the FT line), but his defense and overall contribution to the Hornets' winning has been fine since the all-star break. If he was completely sucking, he'd probably be on the bench more like Jeremy Lamb has been (Lamb even got a DNP yesterday, giving Troy Daniels a rare opportunity to play backup SG). Regarding LOF sucking, I think you are stereotyping here...

Yes, but those leagues have lots of players in the NBA. The Ivy League rarely gets any players into the NBA, which is why we rally behind the ones that do (even if they went to a different school than the ones we went to). It's the reason why we got behind Matt Maloney (Penn) and Chris Dudley (Yale), too.

Maloney played for the rockets and he was much more successful than lin here. We didn't get a flood of maloney fans. It's not ivy league. Like people don't follow Fitzpatrick around the nfl like groupies.

Matt Maloney had a Rockets career average of 8pts/3ast and got to play with Hakeem, Clyde, and others who had won the Championship just two years before. Also, the Internet was barely in its infancy, so I wouldn't expect this website to get a lot of traffic back then.
LOL I remember when people were saying Anthony Davis' Kentucky Wildcats would beat the Philadelphia Sixers. Or even a couple years ago, Alabama Crimson Tide beating the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ludacris! The level of the college game and pro game is completely different lol.
