Anyone here listen to Vince Russo on Austin's podcast over the last week? It's scary how much sense the guy makes.
They don't have to do anything until he can cut a promo. Wins/losses don't mean **** in wrestling, a good match is putting both guys over. And yes being booked against top guys is being pushed, title or not. In ring, he is a superstar. On the mic, he's one of the worst on the main roster.
I can understand why Neville isn't getting pushed. He can go in the ring, and has some stupidly cool aerial spots, but he's a hard guy to market. His geordie accent makes him hard to understand, and he has no personality. On top of that he's extremely short and has pointy ears. He's best utilized in big spot matches or in a tag team. I say all of this as a fan of his, but I understand the companies reluctance to give him a big push. What I don't understand is the companies refusal to give anybody a big push. They have another chance here with Sami Zayn. He's a legit 6'1. He's multi lingual and will play well in multiple foreign regions. The smarks already adore him, and it will be very easy to win over the casuals. And to top it off he's one of the best in ring performers in the world. He'll never be the face of the company, he's not that kind of star. But he can be a legit top guy, who can occasionally be in the main event, and even win the belt if built right. But from what I've seen, he will fall in to the 50/50 booking mid card purgatory with everybody not named Roman Reigns. He'll win a few, lose a few, and the office will wonder why nobody is becoming a star. Kevin Owens, Ziggler, Kofi, Cesaro, Ambrose, Rusev, Del Rio, The Wyatts and even AJ Styles appears to be heading into that abyss. Just book somebody strong for a few months, to the point beating them feels like and accomplishment. That's why nobody feels like a top guy, because nobody is booked like a top guy.
You are such a troll. Yeah Ambrose is not being pushed with Brock and WWE title matches. Owens is the IC champ. Kofi is a tag champ. Cesaro was doing great work with Cena & Owens before getting hurt and Styles has been around a month and is in a great fued.
I love Sami Zayn and he's my favorite NXT Heavyweight but his first two WWE matches will be a US title match vs John Cena and an IC title match at WM vs. KOMania. He doesn't need to be pushed above that title level for a year or two (same with any NXT future call up; Balor, Nakamura, Joe, Crews, etc) Owens has gotten what his character is about across to viewers. He's putting on some classic WWE Network fights every week and some Sunday's like the his series of four with Ambrose topped with the IC Title Street Fight at RR. Point is Zayn should get the slow build, get his character across and make the 70% of the crowd who doesn't know him actually care about him winning.
What do you mean, wins and losses mean nothing? If you keep losing, there's going to be a stigma of you never reaching "the promised land." If winning and losing meant nothing, the word "burial" and its variants wouldn't be so commonly used when talking about wrestlers. There's an easy way around the mic problem - give him a mouthpiece. I don't think Lesnar has formed a complete sentence yet since being back in the ring, but Heyman does wonders for him. Granted, Heyman failed with Cesaro, but there's no reason not to try. Look at the Social Outcasts. You can barely understand Adam Rose, but pair him with a couple of great mic workers, and the crowd will eat it up. AJ Styles can't cut great promos, and his feud with Jericho is still entertaining. And the last argument I have for Neville? Reigns. WWE is pushing this guy to the moon, but the problem is, he can't speak nor wrestle - everything is power moves after power moves. Neville, as a mic worker and a wrestler, is better than Reigns as a mic worker and wrestler. Both look like physical freaks, yet one gets the push over another. I don't understand the appeal behind Owens. He didn't get a slow burn like you think Zayn should get; instead, he fights (and beats!) John Cena in his first match, debuting on Raw. In fact, Zayn is still involved in the NXT championship. The US open challenge was a great thing - I wish that stuff continued. This would allow WWE viewers to see some of the NXT roster without the NXT roster needing to be called up.
Didnt hurt Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, etc none and they lost as much as they won. Wins and Losses mean about as much as RBI's in baseball. Sure there nice, but ultimately it's not what makes a wrestling career
Pretty much every match at Roadblock has been excellent (even the divas match)... until Brock came out. Brock vs. Harper was awful. Sami Zayn vs. Stardust was awful. Really looking forward to Ambrose vs. Triple H.
That's why that match was so horrible. Bray just ran out. Brock suplexed Harper 7 times and then finished him with an F5, and that was it. Literally nothing was accomplished. Ambrose is freaking money, though. Any time he is in a match, you know it will be amazing. This one was no different. That dude is awesome. That was a throwback match. They took it back to the late 90s with that one.
Pretty sad when the Diva's match and the NXT match were the best of the night. CERTIFIED G AND YOU CANT. TEACH. THAT!
These Saturday network "specials" are basically taped House Shows, so nobody should ever expect anything to happen. WWE tries to hype it, but I had zero interest going in for that reason. Nothing significant was gonna happen with Mania on deck. Might watch it tomorrow morning.
Don't know what they are saving Bray/Lesnar for, doubt it's WM. Atleast Harper got all his big offense in. Dean/HHH ruled. Zayn and Stardust just didn't look fluid. NXT Tag title was probably the best match.
Overall a fun show... But it could have been special. Sami has a tough road ahead... He lost a ton of momentum when he got hurt and the crowd reactions just haven't been the same as before, even in NXT. I'm confident he will get there but his character needs some work.
House shows are often more entertaining than the television shows and titles have changed hands before. Plus I mean honestly what's the difference between Fastlane and Roadblock? both are only on the network. There is no reason why WWE should feel like they couldn't change a title on a house show as long as its on the network. It's basically the same exact audience.
