Both QB's were more effective with their running than they were with their passing. Kap had a fluke postseason but the clock quickly struck midnight and he turned back into a pumpkin.

When it comes to people declaring QB's as "THE FUTURE", it happens every so often when a running QB has a good season. The first time I remember it happening was with Randall Cunningham.....and he wasn't THE FUTURE any more than Kap was. Kap was a RB pretending to be a QB and it worked for a little while just like running the Wildcat did. Some people bite hard on trendy BS like that, others don't.

Saying a player sucks now is not what recency bias is..... especially when the player is actually not good anymore.

Yes, he looked very much like he could revolutionize the position when he came on the scene... but like what happens in almost every situation, defenses started adjusting to him and exploiting his weaknesses (gets happy feet in the pocket, isn't all that accurate despite a live arm, doesn't go through progressions well, doesn't make at the line adjustments well enough). He's had 2 years to adjust to the adjustments, and it hasn't happened... he may make some improvement with a new team/regime, but to expect he'll get back to the level prior to adjustments were made is completely blind optimism.

I think Matt Schaub was a top 10 QB in the NFL at one point.... he sucks now... is that recency bias?

Elway's ego got in the way of resigning Brock. He had pegged Brock's value and couldn't see that the market had escalated significantly. I also believe Brock knew he wasn't going to hang around. I live in Colorado Springs and my wife is a Broncos/Manning fan. I saw several interviews that led me to believe Brock wanted his own team. Below is one of the articles/emails.

I'm pretty excited about Osweiler as our new QB. He said all of the right stuff and now it will be up to him to prove it with his actions.

Broncos fans are in a denied panic. Elway has a lot of holes to fill. Kansas City and Raiders are licking them lips.

Agreed... it was the perfect storm of situations to come together.

And that includes them WINNING it all last year... Elway and the Broncos could suck mightily next year, and there will be zero pressure on them to win a championship any time soon (if ever again, for that front office regime). Denver fans should be more than satisfied with that improbable SB run... then again, some championships merely make people hungry for more, and then front offices start chasing it (see the post-95 Rockets).

I didn't say he wasn't good or didn't have good games. I just said he did not carry the team. He didn't.

Amazing that BO is only 16th on the list of highest paid QBs according to the article. Not only was this a great move, but it was pretty amazing luck that he was available at this moment in time. You can see the Texans agree by their insistence on a 4-yr contract as opposed to the 3 years Denver was offering.

Brock/Lamar could be Lin/Asik, God I hope not. But there are a lot of similarities.

Brock didn't perform out of his mind for the stretch he played and isn't being paid for that unrepeatable performance. And he was drafted as a guy who had known potential

Lamar has shown he can be a solid RB in the league and hasn't been playing 20% of a typical RB workload for just 1 season.

I see what you're trying to do, but I think it's really far off--too far to make the comp

Those weren't very expensive contracts, just had the balloon last year

Lamar is like Asik. Brock might not be exactly like Lin but they both had a small sample size, there was buzz around them, and also doubt what they would do if you gave them the reins. Both contracts were huge compared to what they were previously paying and the Rockets outbid the Knicks as the Texans outbid the Broncos.

It was more than their previous teams were willing to pay. Brock's contract is not as huge if you compare it to other contracts in the league. CK, Tannehill, and Cousins are all getting higher annual salaries than him. 15 QBs are getting paid more than him this year. I don't think it is ludicrous to expect Brock to be a top 15 QB.

Yeah thats true, although part of it was the balloon payment screwing them over. If it was just a normal average per year they might have kept Lin and Asik

Lamar is not like Asik. Asik played 12 mpg and 14 mpg. He was averaging 3pts 5 rbs. The Rockets were hoping and extrapolating things no one had seen, and many didn't believe when they signed him. Miller, on the other hand, has been used plenty. He may not have been "fully utilized" like a bell-cow, but very few guys are nowadays. He's still put in more than enough work for people to understand that he's an NFL RB starter in this league.

Asik was actually a very good player on the Rockets and only become expendable as soon as Dwight Howard agreed to come here. Very good as in he averaged a double double for the season with 10 points and almost 12 rebounds. I don't think the Rockets were expecting a scorer from Asik as much as they wanted him for his rebounding and defense. Whereas Brock helped a team secure a play-off spot and almost the 1st seed in the AFC. Lamar Miller was the guy I wanted the Texans to sign more than Osweiler, and both became available at a really convenient time.

I like the BO signing. Living in Denver, I got to see pretty much all his PT last season. He has a lot of upside but I think maybe as important that the floor is pretty high too. He has a gun, he's really mobile, he is accurate enough. I cant recall many "WTF plays"...doesn't make stupid plays. He does seem to hold the ball too long at times...needs to speed up that pocket clock. He is pretty aware in the pocket & can move around a la Big Ben/Rodgers to extend plays. Dude is just a natural leader too.

I like the Miller signing too. He is still young, entering his prime years...but he has way less ware & tare since he was used so sparingly in MIA. Its like buying a newer used car that was really well cared for & has really low mileage. I like that he can catch the ball out of the backfield & can break a big play here & there too...something old Blue just couldn't give us....that big play threat.

I can see the O starting to take shape with OB having his roster in place. Its not there yet...but you can start to see what it will look like. We still need that Welker/Edelman type shifty/possession guy. We still need a TE that can be some kind of factor in the passing game. They haven't & probably wont be able to address those holes this off-season...but Rome wasn't built in a day. They set themselves up to have made a significant improvement this year. I think we might even be a little bit fun to watch next season.

Broncos are going to be sitting ducks with this QB fiasco; Broncos have interest in Fitz but his asking price is too high according to sources. Guess they will go for a QB in the draft if they can't get Kaep either
