I haven't gotten one in a year. But before that one I had 3 in a 15 month span. Actually got chosen for a jury in the last time. Worst..Week...Ever
Yeah, it was federal. The first 2 made sense. The 3rd one I had along discussion on the phone, but ultimately bit the bullet thinking I would be in and out in a few hours like the first 2 times.
I had one in November. I got picked but we were dismissed after lunch because the people ended up settling.
Yes! You want to be picked. There is a reason they make all those court room shows for forever now. It's high drama and very interesting. kidding i hope you get sent away run as fast as you can
It sucks... but some people seem to really like it (especially those with a miserable job that they get to get out of). What my experience re-inforced to me was that while the jury system is designed to create as fair and impartial a trial as possible, and while jury duty summons are sent out entirely randomly... it really isn't a random collection of individuals who actually get to sit on a jury. They are hand-selected by the lawyers with the judges assistance... with plenty of room for corrupt people to lie their way into (or out of) a jury selection.
My company pays for unlimited jury duty, so I reported and was selected and assigned to return on a later date as a backup for a high profile felony case that would have lasted at least a month. I was kind of excited about it, I do want to serve at least once in my lifetime. I called in the night before the trial and I had been dismissed, the case had been settled or a plea bargain was entered, I assume.
Had one last week. I actually missed one from 2 weeks ago and had to call and reschedule it. Thankfully almost everyone got dismissed by 12 because they only had 1 case that needed jury, so 6 lucky people got selected and luckily I wasnt one of them. PS. remember there is free parking for Jury. I didnt know and ended up paying $10.
I went last year and just sat there in the room for two hours before getting dismissed. They were sure to tell me that getting dismissed because the parties settled in no way resets the timer on getting summoned again, only actually serving on a jury does.
If you don't want to be on a jury.... Here's the trick as told to me by a wise old dude from Jersey.....(I've tried it twice and it worked both times) Look at the calendar and find a holiday that involves a 3 day weekend. Call them and say you want to reschedule for the day right before that. Then you show up and wait about 10 to 15 mins and then you get to go home because the judge usually won't show. You have the rest of the day off as well as the 3 day weekend:grin:
I have it later this month. I served on a municipal court jury last year. A massage parlor was busted for prostitution but the charges I heard were that the place had building code violations.
