Yeah same. If they really think that we won't be able to draft a good QB from where we're picking, then I guess this was the only move they could have done. But nothing I've seen from Osweiler has made me feel great about him. We'll see.
I don't care about the numbers, I care about the reports of him going through his progressions poorly, not having good pocket awareness, etc. While the Broncos offensive line was bad, he did take sacks at a MUCH higher rate than Peyton did (per throw, not total) which is concerning. It would be nice if his stats were what they were but you were reading reports about him throwing a beautiful deep ball or demonstrating great awareness or understanding of defenses or moving through his progressions naturally or having a quick mind or something. I just don't read anyone giving him marks for any positive traits other than his height. All the scouting reports seem to say some combination of: -Awkward mechanics -Weaker arm than advertised -Poor deep ball -Fixates on receivers -Bad pocket awareness I just want to read something glowing about him other than "big kid, great personality, good leader"
Mani went to watch the highlights of osweiler last games and i came out impressed. some of the throws he made were beautiful- he can make all the throws look so easy. the receivers dont have to stop and wait for the ball. He made this beautiful play against the Bengals (Getting away from traffic) someone should be able to post the GIF of this play
okay sure but then you just come off as a hater. i mean c'mon it's not their money!!! why do they care, they 'aint paying him?!?!?
Our only other options were: signing Fitz or RG3, Another year of Hoyer and Savage Drafting Cook, Hack, or Lynch at 22 or Mortgaging the future and trading multiple firsts for Wentz or Goff
Watch this, Gruden is fair on the positives and negatives. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TlNq-5Bowmg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Im sure Obrien studied this guy like crazy before making the decision to go afer him. He has seen him up and close.. Ive seen 2-3 games from Osweiler and was impressed. Now he does takes sacks, but also takes very good care of the ball. Alot of his interceptions were on his receivers. The guy can make every throw out there. I like the risk.. We see what happens

sure when you take his bad games he is going to look like steve deberg overdosed on nyquil. But can he take to coaching? is he willing to spend time in the film room to correct his issues?
Since I posted negative things about Oz and maybe or maybe bummed people out, here's some good throws by him: Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/friday-film-room-brock-osweiler/?utm_source=vicesportstwitter
This one is concerning and fits into what I'm reading everywhere else... This one not so much. Basically scored more touchdowns but went for it on 4th more and failed and missed more field goals. Hard to make anything of that at all.
Actually it's not at all concerning because even a washed up Manning is not gonna take sacks/hits. NFL Career Sacked % Leaders 1. Manning 3.13% 2. Marino 3.13% 3. Doug Williams 3.24% 4. Mark Rypien 3.58% 5. Drew Brees 3.93% ... 15. Brady 4.91% ... 35. Romo 5.42% .... 84. Aaron Rodgers 7.03% ... 98. Ben Roethlisberger (34) 7.49%
Last year, behind the same offensive line (that sucked), Osweiler was taking sacks at a higher rate than Peyton. Significantly higher. Kubiak expressed concern to the media on multiple occasions about the number of hits he was taking and they led to injuries.
Even Osweiler admits to holding onto the ball too long. It's definitely, without a question a problem. He has the tools. He overcomes that... we might be cooking.
It might just be the numbers translate to what's available on game tape as a starting QB. That's why it's easier. Brock may have shown flashes of a good or great QB, but he hasn't actually done it enough or consistently yet. In the words of the wise Jon Gruden, "Potential means you haven't done it yet." He got paid great production numbers for potential. I'd like to see more articles about the market rate, though. In a market where Sam Bradford got paid just as much, Brock's contract looks par for the course. This is precisely why guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick are still out there. After the huge pay days for QBs with bad numbers, Fitzpatrick wants to use his pretty good season as leverage to earn the market rate. Can't blame him. Problem for him is his age and perception that the system helped him more than he helped it. Also, yes, the media are haters. It's Houston.
People are really questioning this now because the fact a first time NFL starter took hits at a higher rate than Peyton Freakin Manning? Peyton Manning who is notorious for getting the ball out of his hands as fast as anyone in the history of the game? A guy who has taken less sacks than Tom Brady through out his career.
You miss my point. My point is that behind the same offensive line, you should expect ANY QB to have a higher sacked rate than Manning, because Manning is the best there's ever been at not being sacked. It's a silly stat to cherrypick for why he wouldn't be successful. The flipside would be saying that Osweiler is going to be great because with the same terrible oline Brock had a better completion %, TD/INT ratio, Y/A, and QB rating than the GOAT, Manning.
