Is there any bad (projected) team with a hole at 1B for a prospect? That's likely the only team who'd be willing to give up anything at all for a shot at Singleton
They really like Gustave <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">AJ Hinch on Gustave “An interesting arm all spring... one of the 1st times we’ve been able to unleash him on the middle part of an order"</p>— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) <a href="https://twitter.com/EvanDrellich/status/708098389137752064">March 11, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
The only team i see out there would be the brewers. But right now Singleton is so bad that he can't beat out Carter.
I know it's early, but Singleton should not even be a consideration any longer. I'll be pretty pissed if he's starting at 1B come April due to the ignorant contract they gave him playing AAA ball. He just looks lost.
this... disappointed in him. all the bulking up business was just hype to make us believe this year would be different. He still has some time to turn it around, but I'm mentally moving on to some of the other exciting prospects. At least we aren't hurting for options!
Hate to say it, but pretty done with Singelton. One of Reed, White, Duffy, Moran will get the job done. Could we see a Gustave-Gregerson-Giles 7-8-9?? Killer G's
I don't see why it would be a significant dissapointment at this point. Pretty much all of us were in a hope for the best, but fully expecting failure. I for one assumed he would not do enough to win the job. Even with a the team giving him first in line treatment. I figured White was gonna start, and Reed would be up before long.
So the starters didn't make the trip yesterday, including Tyler White? Nice. After a hot start Duffy is down to .200 after a couple K's yesterday. Preston Tucker after 0-3 with 3 K's is below the Mendoza line. He also misplayed a ball on the track the day before in left field. If Gattis is ready to start the season, one of these guys ends up in Fresno. They both might if Reed and Moran keep hitting the way they are. Both have been great this spring. We could see Gustave and Musgrove up this year at some point. And I have a feeling we see Wandy contribute, maybe with a couple spot starts.
Bregman, Davis, Fisher, and Kemmer sent to minor league camp. I had hoped to Bregman deserved a little longer of a look.
Yep, this is where I'm at. Tip of the cap to Singleton and his agent for signing that contract, $10M guaranteed. If he manages his money, he'll never have to work again. Hopefully somebody follows up with Bud Norris in a couple years to see if he still thinks it was a horrible decision.
LOVE the lineup for today! Except I would put White and Reed 4th and 5th and Gomez in 8th spot. Altuve Springer Correa Rasmus Gomez Valbuena White Reed Castro
I'm kinda disappointed in AJ Reed. Thought he was gonna take the team by storm. I fully support having Tyler White being the first baseman thus far.
Remember when the Astros offered Robbie Grossman a similar deal? And he turned it down? Man, I bet he thinks about that day all the time... where is Grossman now?
really? I think he's done well. He's been making solid contact and getting his hits. No HRs but that will come. I still feel like 1B job is between Duffy and White at this point with Reed joining the roster in June
If Gattis starts on the DL (although unlikely since he has started practicing and swinging), then I agree that it would likely be Duffy at 1B and White at DH or maybe Duffy at DH and White at 1B. No way they start Reed with the other options they have. Makes sense to gain a year of control by holding him out until late May or whenever the cut-off is (like they did with Correa & Springer)
