As he is right now he is not ready to be a starter. But a lot of players show a very big development from 2nd to 3rd year. So next year we will know more.
I dont think he will ever be able to shoot or be an offensive weapon besides a garbage man but he needs to focus on defence for now.

I was really excited about Capela at the start of the year even calling for him to replace Dwight... Yeah, he's not ready. Lets hope he has an amazing offseason.

There is one thing about him "being ready to be a starter". What contending team relies on their Center playing at a high level? San Antonio does-and we obviously aren't striving to build similar to them.

Golden State runs out Bogut, Ezeli, and Speights

San Antonio runs out Bonner, Diaw, and Duncan

Toronto runs out Valanciunas, Biyombo, and Patterson

Cleveland runs out Mosgov, Thompson, and sometimes Love

OKC runs out Ibaka, Adams, and Kanter

If we land a combination of Durant/Harden/Horford, then we don't need him to necessarily be ready to contribute on a high level. He runs the floor well and defends at a high level. His role would be to rebound on both ends and clean up the boards from Durant/Harden. His offense would improve largely because of how much they spread the court and let him benefit from man coverages. If he developed a mid range this summer, his offensive game would be more than ready for the role he would play on that team.

Now say we strike out Durant/Horford. Then his role becomes a lot larger because he would be filling Dwight's void as the second guy on the offense. I agree that he is not ready for a high number of touches, but what center would we bring in on a reasonable contract that plays at a level high enough to take away from good developmental time for Capela?

To be a starter and a key part of this team he MUST improve on FT's.

45% makes him a big liability and diminishes his value while on the floor

His big boy balls need to drop

He needs more than 10min a game to improve and be consistent

Morey seems like the type trying to keep him under the radar for this offseason

JB really know how to kill players confidence with minute distributions that make no sense

Bickerstaff and possible good decisions only come by accident, as when Dwight gets fouled out and Capela comes in to possibly become an integral part of a win, or when Harrell comes in during a blowout, and then the team comes back to win the game.

I think some people confuse the word starter with star. This team if built around correctly, could greatly benefit from Capela starting. If we add another scorer, and a 4 with some kind of mid range game, then I don't see why Capela couldn't easily be a starter on this team.

Yes he desperately needs to work on his free throws, but the better we build
around him, the less he's going to be forced to do. We already know what he can do, and that's play with a high level of energy, play above the rim, and protect the paint. If he can bulk up some more during the off season, and work on his hands a bit more, he will become much more reliable in the rebounding department, and could easily start for this team.

    So true.
Capela is a legit NBA starter right now. Without checking I would guess a quarter of the teams could use him as their first C. He is a double double just waiting to happen.

Give him 10-20lbs in the off season and he could be a very solid starter next yr.

If he can only improve on his 3 point shot and mad handles... he'd be Curry, but taller and more handsome.

On defense Clint is going to walk into 8 rebounds, but that doesn't mean he's a rebounder, and it doesn't solve the Rockets rebounding woes. Whoa, we have major problems. The rest of the team is used to Dwight grabbing everything. It's almost going to take a year or more to undo some bad habits by everyone on the team. If Capela is going to start the Rockets will need to upgrade to a rebounding Power Forward and team rebound. We haven't done that yet. Need to. Cap is a natural shot blocker. And he does put in effort. So lot's of good, but he's not ready to improve the team.

On O, Capela seems to be playing horizontal game when he should be above the rim offensively. If he can't learn to get lift on his bunny shots he's going to be an alley oop or not at all guy, and never progress to the point of being a threat.

I like him, and think he will only improve with more minutes. As for free throws, well, let's hope he can improve more than Josh and Dwight have with all their years of experience. We don't need more hacking targets. We have enough.

He's more like 6'11 ish and seems to be a great long center type. That extra 20lbs could only f up his lower body because most the centers are super light yet strong these days.

This dude needs to get his ft% higher. Aim for the square because the rim isn't working.

I agree with ft%. It is mind-blowing to see professionals out there getting payed millions who can't be taught to shoot free throws at 70% or more. We have guys who can't hit 50%, and have watched in disgust too many times in the past, the hacking of Josh and Dwight. Clint will be another hacking target unfortunately, unless he learns to shoot better.

What they are doing now isn't working. Granny shots for the big men will never be seen, because they would be teased, and not look MACHO, but I bet they would make more.....LOL.

I just don't understand why they wouldn't do whatever it takes to win...

I agree, but the coach has responsibility in that too.
