[rquoter]Bob McNair: Moves give Texans 'a chance to go a long way' Texans owner Bob McNair spent more than $100 million Wednesday and was happy to do it. Quarterback Brock Osweiler cost McNair $72 million over four years, and running back Lamar Miller cost him $26 million over the same number of years. The Texans also signed guard Jeff Allen and center Tony Bergstrom. "I'm excited," McNair said. "I think these moves give us a chance to go a long way in the playoffs." McNair said three times since the season ended with the playoff loss to Kansas City his team needed to acquire a quarterback. He mentioned using the draft to find that quarterback but never ruled out free agency or a trade to fill the Texans' biggest need for coach Bill O'Brien. "Quarterback was our No. 1 priority," McNair said. "He (Osweiler) was the one we wanted." General manager Rick Smith got Osweiler to leave Denver for a contract that averages $18 million a year. "He was the guy we wanted," McNair said. "Rick said he was going to get him, and he did. I've got to give him a lot of credit. He did a heck of a job." Reports in Denver said the Broncos increased their offer today to $16 million a year. "If we had waited for the draft, we would have had to give up picks to move up to get a guy we wanted," McNair said. "We probably would have had to give up at least three picks, and that's three quality players. "Now we can go into the draft and take the best player in each round." Osweiler, 25, was 5-2 as a starter last season. O'Brien saw him when the Texans played the Broncos in the last two preseasons and practiced against him in the 2014 season. "He showed he can play," McNair said. "Bill was familiar with him. The more you know, the less risk there is. "I think quarterbacks around the league see what a good job he (O'Brien) has done coaching our quarterbacks the last two years. I definitely think it influences players. "This is a fresh start for him (Osweiler)." McNair was also pumped to see the Texans' second-biggest need taken care of with the signing of running back Lamar Miller. In the Texans' blowout loss at Miami last season, Miller carried 14 times for 175 yards, including an 85-yard scoring run. He caught three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. "He (Miller) tore us up," McNair said. "He's tremendous. He's got tremendous speed. He's got the speed we were looking for. He's a good receiver, too. We're very pleased to get him. "Overall, I couldn't be more excited today."[/rquoter]
Reading those quotes from McNair....... Does it seem like Rick Smith wanted Osweiler more than anyone else? I want to hear what BoB has to say. I wonder how "Jaelen Strong" he really is on Brock.

If I'm Rick Smith or any Texans personnel, I'd get Osweiler to sign on the dotted line ASAP before he pulls a DeAndre Jordan.

Basically means we will draft defense. I still feel we have a few big needs & would rather see them addressed earlier on. OL / WR+TE. William Fuller (Notre Dame) Josh Doctson, WR, TCU Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State Hunter Henry, TE, Arkansas
Played for what? Broncos made a similar, albeit less, offer. 4 years $72M $37M guaranteed 4 years $64M $30M guaranteed
Yeah Rick Smith didn't get played. (Even tho he usually does) Brock obviously didn't like something with the Broncos and felt hurt. Broncos are trying to make it turn on him. This is good, I am sure Brock will play with more of a chip on his shoulder now.
Yeah not played. Interesting though that the Broncos were his leverage against Texans and not the other way around as expected
Osweiler seems to be more of a Rick Smith signing from McNair's quotes, so next question would be how much convincing did he have to do to get Obrien on board and abort any high draft pick for Hackenburg ideas.
This is what scares me. If a Head Coach has to get convinced on a QB, that is not good. Also seems like Brock gets his feelings hurt a bit (from the benching etc) - BoB is wayyyyyyyyyy diff from Kubiak. He will make you cry in 3 seconds. I hope he's ready.
