"On the Texans' QB upgrade: Brian Hoyer finished 2015 ranked higher than Brock Osweiler in both passer rating (91.4 to 86.4) and Total QBR (59.6 to 48.8)." Mike Sando ESPN Sr. Writer

Just want to point out that the Schaub comparison is very weird.

Osweiler has a cannon for an arm (but questionable deep ball accuracy) where Schaub had a below average arm but was surprisingly accurate on deep balls.

Schaub was a pocket sloth with zero athletisicm (famously tripping over his own feet) where Osweiler is pretty mobile despite his size. His offensive linemen talked about how different it was to block for him vs Peyton because Osweiler could move so much.

They both have dark hair and are big guys, though Osweiler is leaner than Schaub.

I really don't get the comparison in their games.

I would guess it's more of a ceiling thing; he can be *as* good as Schaub; not play like him.

Hoyer was statistically pretty damn good in his time with the Texans. Don't let Bobby fool you.

He had a GOD AWFUL playoff game and there is reason to believe that what you got out of Hoyer was manufactured by BOB, not really him playing "well" if that makes sense, but he definitely played a statistically good season.

So before we had crap QB but no salary investment. Now we have crap quarterback but major salary invested in the position.

Probably happened to just spite Kubiak.

The most apt comparison seems to be Aaron Rodgers.

He sat behind Favre for almost his entire rookie contract before signing an extension in the middle of the 2008 season (his first as a starter).

That contract was more than $11 million a year and had $20 million in guarantees.

I'm with you there. They are nothing at all alike. I think it might have something to do with them both being slow? Or both being backups?

I am by no means trying to defend Brock nor saying he is finally the answer, but it's kind of funny how Hoyer's 2015 season stats being better than Osweiler's 2015 stats are flying out all of a sudden.

Brian Hoyer also beat Derek Carr in both categories. Who would you rather have?

Why did the Texans not have time to develop a rookie QB?

Ohhh that is right, it is because they did absolutely NOTHING to develop or invest in that position for half a decade.

This is on the Texans, good or bad.

Osweiler isn't slow. He ran the 40 at like 4.73 and 4.8. That's similar to Alex Smith. He's not the same athlete that Smith is, but he is not slow. Guy is pretty mobile, especially for a big QB. He's faster than Jameis Winston as an example.

Osweiler = Flacco if you're talking about ceiling comparisons.

They paid an unproven, mediocre qb tons of money. He couldn't even keep his starting job and lost it to an old washed up Peyton Manning.

This screams of desperation move on BO'B and ricks part.

Not a Schaub fan but have to point out he lost his mobility his last two years here after the lisfranc injury he received courtesy of Fat Albert. You wouldn't call him an athletic QB but before the injury he was plenty mobile and could run the bootleg to perfection. The year he got hurt I believe he has 3 rushing TDs himself.

Anyway I'll say again I'm all for Brock. I like we can draft BPA in the first round and not have to worry about trading up for a unknown QB

I think the best game comparison for Osweiler is Eli Manning.

Strong arm, questionable decision making, athletic but looks goofy as hell doing so.
