Yes, sorry, meant to make that clear. If you view him as an irreplaceable player you make it work and you just let other guys go from your depth.

    Ben Jones isn't special though.

Matt Schaub, Peyton Manning... Alex Smith hasn't done bad either. Mike Vick had an MVP season with Philly.

Thanks. Hah I always forget about Brett. I guess I don't count him much in that scenario. 4 passes and traded.

Steve Young is a good example.

Brett Favre? Steve Young? Matt Schaub (pre-implosion)? Jeff Hostetler?

If you include Brees who already played plenty at his 1st stop, then you can also include guys like Palmer, Warner, Moon, Cunningham, Montana, etc. etc. who switched teams and were successful

Good point. Except that the Titans didn't overpay for Ben Jones

I agree. It is also why I think Brooks should be a priority though, as he has special traits. He hasn't shown the growth that we have wanted yet but he has the skills to do so and I think it is worth paying the price to see if he reaches that potential.

$4 million makes him the 10th highest paid center in the league.

Edit: And everyone above him is star caliber.

Thanks. Pretty interesting list. I guess my mind was drawing a blank after a few recent names.

Do you see the team going with Brock, Savage & (Rookie QB).

If they sign Osweiler they will roll with Savage as the backup. I personally hope they draft a QB still but it's not a guarantee.

It's hard to imagine that setup. I have to imagine that signing Brock would come with a veteran backup of some kind, and then the vet/Savage/rookie would battle for 2 slots.

Personally, I'd rather see the Texans spend the assets to trade up and get a QB if at all possible and then use the FA money on the guys they would have picked with those draft picks...rather than FA on QB and draft picks on the rest of the team. I don't see Brock as the answer. But I hope I'm wrong if they get him

I'm not sure what to make of Brock, but I do know that the cost to trade up to get in the top 10 is going to be crazy. How convinced are you that Wentz or Goff is better than Osweiler? Convinced enough to give up your 1, 2, next year's 1 and and like a 4?

    ...

The Broncos and Jimmy Sexton, Osweiler’s agent, re-established talks Tuesday afternoon and there will be serious negotiations today.

The Houston Texans are also expected to make Osweiler an offer. The Broncos know the Texans are in on their quarterback. Their quarterback.

The Broncos are expected to sweeten their initial offer that -- with incentives -- was worth more than $45 million over three years.

    ...

The Broncos want Osweiler. After mentoring for three-and-a-half seasons behind Manning before finally getting his chance in the second half of last season once Manning got injured, Osweiler frequently let it be known he wants to stay in Denver.

At least until the free-agent negotiated period opened he did. Then, it became about business. All’s fair when it comes to business.

Still, it would be surprising if Osweiler didn’t re-up with the Broncos.[/rquoter]

Not convinced, but I do know that Osweiler went in the 2nd round in his class, and didn't look great in his first go round last year. I'd probably pull the trigger on a trade like the one you mentioned if it got the Texans the better of the 2 in BOB's eyes. I think there's a shot at greatness with them.. certainly a shot at flopping too. But we have more data with Osweiler, and the data suggests his shot at greatness is lower, imo

The list of failures at QB is lengthy with whatever parameter you choose to use.

Here was the cost for the Redskins to move from 6 to 2 translated to this year:
    this year's #1
    this year's #2
    next year's #1
    the next year's #1

So 3 consecutive #1 picks and a #2 to move up four spots. The Texans need to move up at least 12, maybe more. The cost is going to be at least what the Redskins did, probably more.
