Interesting to see what the deal is. Jones was very replaceable IMO.

OLs play better with continuity not necessarily better players. It would be great to have both. I think losing Jones is gonna suck but maybe it won't matter if we have a new QB afterall.

Everything I see online that says Lamar to Dallas also says that Houston is a "front-runner".

I'm slowly preparing myself for: Brooks to Patriots, Miller to Colts, BOs stays in Denver, and we are going to build in the draft. It just happens too much.

Yup, unless vstexas09 has seen something I've missed, everything claims that Dallas is "a frontrunner" along with the Texans.

[rquoter]The Broncos want to keep quarterback Brock Osweiler, and the Texans reportedly are pursuing him. League insiders currently can’t tell whether the Texans’ interest is real, or whether it’s being embellished (or flat-out manufactured) to squeeze the Broncos into paying more.

As one league source explained it, there’s one fact that will break the tie conclusively: If Osweiler takes a visit to Houston, he most likely won’t be returning to the Broncos.

The Broncos, who dumped Tim Tebow four years ago and who could see both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler exiting after a Super Bowl win, surely have a plan B. As Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports Network said during the 2015 season on PFT Live, the Broncos were interested in signing quarterback Tyrod Taylor a year ago. While a trade for Taylor is highly unlikely (then again it would be crazy to rule out anything), the Broncos could be eyeballing a trade for 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, whose skill set is very similar to Taylor’s.

It’s unknown where Osweiler is leaning, but let’s not assume he has warm and fuzzy feelings about being yanked from the field in Peyton Manning late in the regular season, especially in light of the dramatic impact a Super Bowl run with Osweiler at quarterback would have had on his value.

    1. Why is he mentioning Tebow? Seems very irrelevant to this situation.
    2. Kaepernick similar to Taylor? Ha!

$4.5MM in Year 1. Texans could've easily kept him had they wanted too.

I'm on the fence with this Brock situation. Part me of thinks of this as Schaub 2.0 / Better version of Hoyer.

It's not often a QB from another team comes in and has a successful career. (Drew Brees, Rich Gannon, ...... can't think of anymore at the moment)

The title of that article is so weird.

"Broncos move closer to losing Brock Osweiler" or something like that.

The article itself doesn't seem to say that at all.

He's not worth it & I bet O'Brien knew that going into Free Agency. We need someone nasty and physical at center. Ben just didn't have control.

    No they couldn't.

Assume they are seriously trying to land both Osweiler and Miller.

    Miller 6.5
    Osweiler 16.5
    Clark 3

That's $26 million committed without counting Eddie Pleasant's new deal, AJ Bouye, John Simon, etc. Let's say all of those guys return for very little money, they still would be committing another 3-4 million.

That gets you to $29 million committed.

Yes, they have something like $40 million available, but they need room for the rookie pool.

This doesn't even account for trying to keep Brandon Brooks or adding any other veteran free agents on the low end of the spectrum.

They actually can't afford to keep a "solid" player for around $4 million a year.

Edit: These numbers aren't precise and they can clear close to $5 more if they dump Hoyer, but the point still stands. The cap space burns up quickly if they sign a couple of big ticket guys.

Understood, but OB and management definitely could have made it work had they thought Jones was a key player to keep around. They obviously view him as a replaceable talent.

The simple reality is that interior offensive linemen are hard to retain in free agency. Someone is always desperate for an upgrade and willing to overpay. A team can't overpay their entire offensive line though.

It's a nasty party of attrition. This is why you need a better draft record. Replacing a non-star caliber center should not be a big deal.
