Dwight's play right now is reminding me of current version amare stoudemire. Can still get points and rebounds but can't play team switching defense. Ends up being a net negative out there.
I give him a pass for the most part when it comes to conditioning because I think that'll come eventually but he's gotta make those 3's. Even in his current state, DMo brings more to the team than the other PF's, but he's gotta get better if the delusion of a Rockets run is going to become reality.
DMO did some small things last night..IMO he was decent in 20 min played Imagine if we had Jones playing those 20 minutes, total disaster
At this point, Dmo is not giving you anything to justify not running small ball. Like the kid, but he is out of shape and can't rebound even when healthy. Voided traded, continues to be a disaster.
The team flows better when Dwight its out LMFBO. Your beloved DMO was a -16 while on the court against the Pelicans and -18 last night against Toronto. DD where do you come up with your shtick, its becoming hilarious.
And Dwight was a -6 in 38 minutes....I guess that means we should start Capela who was +11 and just cut Dwight right? Single game plus minus is rarely of any value.
The truth is the truth, +/- is another useless stat - it is all about understanding the flow of the game and what is expected, DMo has made some poor rotations, but at least he is rotating, Dwight is one of the laziest players I have ever seen....he has to go....build around Harden. DD
Agree 100%. Pistons didn't manage to send some stuff DMo left id Detroit. Like sneakers, med records and so. This summer DMo is a RFa and can you imagine the damage all that soap opera caused to him? For 99.99% of people around the bball who have no clue what really is going on, DMo will be forever labeled as a guy with a "bad back". Despite him being 100% healthy any future possible contracts he is gonna to sign can easily be cut by a half. Last year DMo was an upcoming big in the league with "best post moves", now he became an "X-factor" for sure. Bench player with limited minutes on a tanking team, my a$$
I think there is merit to what DD is saying about Dwight affecting our gameflow. I mean we did do pretty well without him last year in the 40 games he missed.
It's been noticeable to me lately. It seems like we'll be down and Dwight will go out and Capela will come in and that's when the comeback run starts.
The "switch everything" defense is a bad fit on this team. Even GSW make sure not to switch Bogut on perimeter players. That's what you do when you have a lot of long, quick defenders. We only switch because our players aren't motivated enough to fight through a screen. But yeah, it's silly to expect Dwight to go out to the 3 pt line regularly to contest a shot. Even if the guy misses, with Dwight out of the play, the other team will get the rebound. Open 3 vs Open Layup.
Dmo hasn't been good all season. Lately, he hasn't been very efficient. At least when he returned the first time during December he was actually efficient, but this myth that Dmo has been playing well is just weird. He's been pretty bad, and just because a player is hustling a lot it doesn't mean he's playing good team defense. I want the best for Dmo, but he simply isn't showing a lot of good signs. His back does look good though. I quickly compiled a list of players and their advanced statistics. The players are Dmo(three versions; first return, second return, complete season), David Lee, Markieff Morris, and Josh Smith. The reason I chose those three players is because they are all forwards obviously, played similar minutes so far, and were all directly involved with Dmo. Spoiler Josh this season has played as poorly as anyone on this team, and you might attribute that to his injury but his return has been a colossal flop. Markieff w/ the Wizards because I remember a lot of users on here being upset that the Suns managed to get a lottery pick for him. Markieff with the Wizards hasn't been great, but he has been much much better than Dmo has been and his contract could potentially be smaller than Dmo's next season. If looked at objectively, Houston and Wizards both got a steal in their respective trades. Wizards got the better pick for the player that is playing better. Houston got the late mid-range pick for the player who is playing terribly. David Lee because he could have potentially joined the Rockets had they had that extra roster spot if the traded was never voided. No one wants to admit it, but David Lee is still a very respectable player that can come off the bench. His statistics show it and he is vastly outplaying any player on the list and he's doing it for the minimum. If Houston wanted to be secure for the future, but still be competitive for this season then signing Lee after the trade would have exactly done this. The truth is Dmo has been one of the worse players in the league this season and no matter how beautiful his fundamentals look on the court by doing nice behind the back passes or diving for each lose ball.. he is hurting the team when he is on the court. and that sucks because all the alternatives are just as bad or not much better.
I wasn't sold on the DMo as the X-factor idea before, but now I believe this season really hinges on him. This team needs a player at the 3, 4 position who can pass. They don't necessarily have to be a playmaker, but they need to know how to get the ball moving and make the hockey assists. Without them, the offense tends to stagnate because most of our role players (Brewer, Ariza, Beverley, etc.) need to be set up to score. Looking back, we had DMo and to a lesser extent Papanikolau playing that role in the first half of last season. We then had Josh Smith in the latter half of the regular season and the playoffs. This season, maybe Morey thought Ty Lawson's playmaking skills would compensate somehow but it didn't work out. Even if DMo doesn't look great on court right now, I think it's the right move to give him a lot of playing time and try to get him ready for the playoffs. If they can integrate him into the offense, we may see an offensive resurgence in guys like Brewer and better ball movement in general. Plus DMO will be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder after the Detroit debacle. Hopefully, he can remain healthy and get back into game shape by the end of the season.
Lol and what's Papa doing now? It's pretty amazing to watch someone get so emotionally invested in players. With that said, I think DMo is an important piece if he can stay healthy. I think our season might have been different from the beginning if DMo. You're right about what he can bring but your emotionally attachment has blinded you to the severity of his back injury and the nature of the biz.
Look DMoronovich - it is not about being a KEY piece it is about how they fit, do they make the team better. We need more TEAM players...Papa couldn't shoot to save his life but he played hard on D, rebounded well, and passed the ball and set good picks - who on the current Rockets can do that? We MISS that effort and team play...that is 100% what is missing this season. DD
Well, you guys better hope that Dmo turns into that guy quickly because he isn't cutting it right now. Like at all. Because right now he's a huge liability when he's on the floor offensively and defensively.
