I don't disagree that there won't be an effect, I just don't think the Texans O line/offense collapses because we didn't resign Ben Jones. Obviously with a new QB and center there's gonna be some growing pains and it's going to cause the offense to start off somewhat slow, but losing one solid at best lineman won't kill this offense or severely hinder a new QB's development. If we lose Brooks too then that changes everything

Its a deep draft a center. Doubt DQ starts there. I think we can get a starting center as late as the fourth round.

[rQUOTEr]Broncos competing with Texans to land QB Brock Osweiler

The Broncos' search for Peyton Manning's replacement remains, for now, in house. Denver continues its attempt to bring back Brock Osweiler, a bid that has been met by competition from the Houston Texans.

The Broncos made a competitive offer to Osweiler last month of three-year, $39-million with escalators that could increase the value. The unknown guaranteed money holds the key — and represents a chance for elasticity in the negotiations.

Free agency is defined by opportunity and money. Houston, like Denver, features both. The Texans reached the playoffs last season, winning the AFC South. They won seven of their final nine regular-season games, but Kansas City trounced them in the playoffs, 30-0, as quarterback Brian Hoyer completed 15 of 34 passes with four interceptions.

Osweiler, 25, has exercised patience in the market. He went 5-2 as the Broncos starter, but was benched in the final regular season game. Coach Gary Kubiak has praised Osweiler's mental toughness, and appreciates how he was groomed as a backup for three-plus seasons. Osweiler could face an interesting decision: start over with a contender like Houston, or take over a Super Bowl champion, while facing enormous expectations as Manning's successor.

Free agents can officially sign with other teams at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

General manager John Elway's history suggests he will find a number he's comfortable with on Osweiler before considering other options. He is not inclined to engage in a bidding war.

If a deal can't be struck with Osweiler, the Broncos would be left with third stringer Trevor Siemian on the roster. The Broncos like his potential, but he figures to require more seasoning.[/rQUOTEr]

I'm not looking at the signing in a vacuum. Losing 40% of your starting o-line and having to rely on Duane Brown's recovery and the infamous Derek Newton as your veteran hold-overs to keep new QB upright and make running room for your new RB. That's what I'm looking at. You're right it doesn't mean the offense collapses; not even close. But it takes something that was somewhat a strength last season and makes it a weakness or a question mark to begin the season. The ideal for a new QB is solid D, solid line, and solid running game. You can't underestimate the effect of a QB having confidence in his line, especially the player snapping the ball to him.

The only centers I feel good about are Kelly, Martin, and Allen. I doubt they draft Kelly in the first and Martin will probably be gone in the 2nd, so we might be looking at Jack Allen as best case scenario. The patriots love Big Ten linemen so I def see them doing that.

If we get Miller and Benjamin, I'd consider this a good offseason. Assuming Hoyer is NOT starting at QB

How do we think our picks will go with Miller and hopefully Benjamin and maybe Osweiler?

Yep. Two year deal... he was good as the 3rd safety in sub packages.

If we get Miller, Benjamin, and Osweiler, it helps the draft a lot.

If it were me in that scenario, I'd take a d lineman in the first (flame suit on). Either a nose or end that falls. Crick should be let go, in my opinion. He hasn't been great. In the second, you get BPA. Hope someone like Hunter Henry or Nick Martin falls. In the third, you take who is left of Prescott, Hack, or Cook.

One RB off the board. To a rival too.

Murray in Tennessee, Ivory in Jax but if Miller comes here I think the Texans would have the best acquisition

Why? They have Yeldon and Denard, correct? Seems like RB was a position of relative strength.

Jags can screw off for driving the RB market up. Damn it.

Miller will go for at least that per year but probably more. Frustrating.
