I have a friend who is in medical device sales for startups, and he claims that Obamacare is stifling innovation in the US due to additional fees and regulations. His comment was that many of the innovations will now emanate from Europe rather than the US because of this.

I have a friend that says just the opposite.

Since we have no way of counting up anecdotes, we are forced to rely on data, I guess. Oh well.

I believe that in digital health, innovation comes from startups. There are many outside the US which have much better technology and teams. However, there is a total disparity when it comes to access to capital. Many of the US VCs barely know that there is a world outside the valley (and possibly the Boston area and New York, when it comes to digital health). So they ignorantly throw big money at mediocre companies, rather than venturing outside the USA.

We have a lot of advancements that aren't really advancements here as well. We have an insane reliance on drugs, medical devices, and surgeries that aren't as good as moderate exercise and a moderate diet.

I and the rest of the country (outside of NY, SV, and Boston) are offended. What's wrong with the rest of the US?

What's the point of having the best medicine in the world
If only like 3% of your country can afford to have it?

The source is not being r****ded. Hospitals can't turn people away because they are poor, they are treated just like anyone else thus they benefit from medical technology just like everyone else.

I don't have a particular number to cite, but from what I've been taught in medical history and epidemiology classes is that the majority of advances in life expectancy are due to curing childhood diseases. Polio, chicken pox, mumps; basically everything we get vaccinated for now.

Other things that have rapidly improved, as mentioned above, include emergency care such as heart attack management or trauma. 50 years ago you'd just be dead if one of those happened to you.

For the average Joe Blow who didn't have a childhood illness, underlying risk factors or random trauma his life expectancy really hasn't gone up significantly. If anything, the rise of processed foods and general lack of nutritional progress (the Western diet) is lowering life expectancy for the average person.

EMTALA. Plenty of indigent patients get millions of dollars of healthcare.

If it's common sense like you say, then it should be easy to find a link for once in your posting history that backs up what you say. I'm giving you an easy one to make you look better, because 90% of what you say has no backup.

There is no need for a link to what is common knowledge. I honestly don't care how you think I look, you are seeking an appeal to authority which is logically fallacious. My statement would be no more accurate if I showed you a link to someone else saying what is obvious. What needs to happen here is that you need to educate yourself so that you can speak with the big boys.

    Source?

Find me a source that says I am seeking an appeal to authority. This is a perfect example of you making things up and believing you are right. I am seeking facts/data. Since when are facts/data logically fallacious?

You are confused on the definition of what an appeal to authority is, maybe if you sought some backup, you would educate yourself before others have to do it for you.

I'm an idiot because I am correct? Your delusion has no bounds.
