With the mass exodus today in Denver, it doesn't seem like they have much of a choice. They really can't afford to add QB to their laundry list of needs this off-season.

Just when I was starting to warm up to the idea...it's probably not going to happen.

It's hard to say what's going on. Ed Werder has reported that Osweiler isn't happy in Denver to begin with, so he may be using THEM for leverage with US.

    Who knows.

Osweiler is going to go were he can get the most money. He will not get another pay day remotely close to this one unless he does really well. They have to treat this situation like it is a once in a lifetime scenario..... which means the most guaranteed money.

He could be pissed that they benched him for Manning and there's whispers that he doesn't like the way Kubiak runs his offense. If those things are true, he could be looking for more than just money, he might just want to leave.

Even if we don't get Brock making the Brocos overpay is a win.

I don't think he fits Gary's system all that well, and Gary didn't always put in in the best position to succeed. I live in denver and watch almost every broncos game. There always seemed to be some kind of disconnect between the 2.

That being said, the fans here absolutely love him and want him back. I think the hate for him on this board is a it much. I think he is definitely the best QB out there right now and the money denver is offering isn't too outrageous. It's like average starting QB money which is what I think he would be.

I gotta say, mad props to Elway on trying to keep Brock. Probably the best thing that ever happened to the Broncos was Elway.

what else would Denver do? Manning retired and they have a Super Bowl team that will want to defend their title. If they lose Brock they'll be worse off than the Texans are now--probably a very similar team and there aren't exactly any other stellar choices available in FA and they are drafting last so finding some stud rookie QB isn't happening either.

The way I see it, they don't have a choice but give Brock what he wants or next season will likely be a big disappointment. The only way I could see him coming to the Texans is if we offer significantly more and he really just doesn't like the system and feels like he'd do better in Houston...otherwise why bother to leave your team and have to build chemistry all over again with a bunch of brand new team?

Not to mention the job is his in Denver, if he comes here he will have to battle Hoyer for starting job. :)

    I don't think that's quite what's happening here.

The reports are that Osweiler's main objection to the three-year offer from Denver wasn't just the money, but primarily the years. He wants the ability to get an even higher payday in a couple years, whereas the Denver offer would lock him in longer than he'd like.

I think Texans fans are struggling with "sticker shock" after paying Fitz/Hoyer bargain-basement rates the last two years. Even at $15M per, that would rank Osweiler about 20th out of 32 starting QBs. This is simply the market reality.

Also, Osweiler isn't a random scrub looking to strike while the iron is hot for one big contract. He was a highly drafted, well-thought-of prospect who had a nice "debut" season and believes he can develop into even more.

My guess is Osweiler evaluates the situation based on which gives him the best chance for long-term success... that means the team around him, current money and future flexibility. I don't think it's a slam dunk that he comes to Houston, but I think those saying "he'll stay in Denver, they won the Super Bowl!" are being too simplistic, too.

Denver could let him walk. It's a risk either way in giving him the kind of money he's potentially going to get with the amount of games he started. They just won the Super Bowl with one of the worst QB performances of all time. No one would blame Elway.

Yes, but you're making it seem like Elway is some sort of genius for trying to keep Osweiler in Denver. That's simply common sense. If they believe on ANY level that he can lead that team to the playoffs for the next 3-4 years, then they have no choice but to try everything in their power to re-sign him.

We also don't know what Denver is offering.....reports say $3 years/$39 which is hardly breaking the bank for the QB.

Unhappy in Denver? For what reason? Because he had to defer to a Hall of Fame QB when he got healthy and was ready to play again? They just won a super bowl and Osweiler is best friends with Elways son. That's hogwash from his agent.

Elway reached to take him in the 2nd round based on his relationship with his son at ASU, 'cause he damn sure should not have been taken that high. Let's hope he stays put in Denver and they waste their dough on this project so the Texans can focus their attention on worthy FA's.

Would be a total waste of time and money for the Texans to sign him...he isn't worth that price tag.

The 3 year/$39 million offer the first offer made to Brock. You think Denver makes the player cuts today if that wasn't enough? Texans may have made a bigger offer that Denver feels threatened in some shape or form or could be the work from Brock's agent. Of course, this could all be salary dump for all we know.

Yeah, he had to defer to a washed up old guy who was terrible, thus costing him possibly the only chance he'll ever have to play in a super bowl.....I could see being mad about that.
