Come May (when Reed can be promoted), this very well could be the 1-6 everyday lineup. Have to squeeze in Gattis/Valbuena somewhere too.
Reed going to single-handedly limit Scherzer to a 1 inning appearance... thanks to a helluva first inning AB.
Sorry for the small question, but since I can't watch the game I wanted to ask how Fister looked in the first? Saw he had 2 k's. Does it look like his pitches are having solid movement to them? Is it more of his fastball or his curve as his out pitch at the moment? Thanks in advance!
Thanks Rocket! Repp'd! That's great great news to hear his fastball is touching 90. What a pick up he could turn out to be....
That's huge if he can keep it up. Pitching coaches talk about location, timing, movement, but those things don't age as poorly as velocity. If he's back to throwing at 90, he should still have the location, timing, movement, and guile he had when he was throwing 90 a couple of years ago.
That's about as easy (or hard) as saying that "Singleton has got to start being a good baseball player". Can't imagine the extra muscle/fat led to an improved ability to make contact.
Giles isn't doing himself any favors securing the closer role. I feel like the role is Giles' to win, but Gregerson will hold it down until Giles can have a few dominant innings under his belt. Can't really justify just handing the role to Giles a after Gregerson's solid year last year
Or you can't really justify not giving the job to Giles after he had a better season than Gregerson in terms of K's/ERA, and having just as solid a season as Gregerson did last year. Either way, unless there's an injury one of them is hiding, their spring training performance... where they're coming into games on a scheduled basis, throwing in the 2nd or 3rd inning, working on who knows what pitches... is going to be the least indicative factor of determining who wins the job. And I'd be saying the same thing if Giles was going out there striking out the side on 9 pitches in every appearance.
