No complaints here. Is he perfect, of course not, but he helmed a young team to the postseason in his first year. He wasn't a FA so this really wasn't even necessary, more of a reward. Although you could say they were hedging their bets locking him in before a possible awesome year causes his value to go even higher.
I feel like the young players on this team really respond to him, and in baseball I feel like that's the most important aspect of a manager (especially an AL manager).

Are you kidding? He's already in mid-season form in the ST thread... with exclamations abounding over meaningless games and trends that absolutely cannot be extrapolated to the regular season.
Some Astros fans were calling for his head last September. Will be interesting to see how they comment on this now.
When there are fans out there that consistently call for Poppovich's and Belichick's heads after losses... nothing should surprise anybody. That being said, Hinch did have some trouble with the bullpen as the season wound down... mostly because Neshek collapsed (possibly due to injury?), and overall guys started to wear down/regress. Luhnow did point out that because the Astros were as good as they were, they had to protect many more leads... which leads to over-use of the "A" members of the bullpen, and predictable diminishing returns as the season goes on. In hindsight, they probably end up giving up a boat-load for a closer at the deadline... similar to what they ended up giving up for Giles (albeit with 5 more years of club control). Hinch did do a decent enough job in the reclamation of Carter... getting some unexpected 1B production from Marwin... and doing the job of getting a young team to the next level.
Good for him and the team. This team has special chemistry last year, and I believe AJ had a lot to do with it. I don't see how he's not worth the extension. I remember when Colby said that last season was the most fun he has had in the Majors. Coming from a guy who has been rather unpredictable in club houses, and returning when he could have possibly gone else where and chased more money getting an every day spot instead of the possibly platooning, that speaks a lot about the club house and again to me starts with A.J.
I'm not sure how much they really extended him, he was under contract through 2018 already, and it seems they may have just guaranteed his 2018 option and given him a raise.
I think AJ is good with players, still need to improve a lot on lineups and usage of bullpen. How in this world Gattis played so much while Tucker was benched vs right handed pitchers. Why used Conger vs left handed pitchers when Castro hit lefties better than Hank? Why use Lowrie when he was struggling so much instead of Valbuena, Marwin or Villar? At the end i believe Villar hit .284 with us, Jed was awful in the second half. Lowrie hit .194 in the second half, and around .205 vs right handed pitchers. And i remember him playing Jed vs right handed pitchers and sitting him vs lefties. I think he is very good with players, which is VERY IMPORTANT but made some mistake with lineups, usage of players vs right and left handed pitchers, and with the bullpen. I do believe he did very good with the starting rotation, even at the beginning when we did not had a good rotation with Hernandez and Wojo. The important thing here is that he is good in something that you are good or not, period, and what he is not good yet you can improve. Lets hope we see improvement there. Of course, we are all going to be judging, thats part of baseball.
That's ridiculous. Crane would never spend money he didn't have to because cheap. This must be some mistake.
I'll chalk up some of his situational decisions as rookie blunders, and I'll chalk up the rest to a tired (and inconsistent) bullpen. I don't have an issue with extending him.
One already won the Super Bowl, and some fans have already felt like the Rockets let McHale go too soon. Don't get me wrong, both McHale and the Rockets were probably better off without each other anyway. At least now we know McHale wasn't the main problem.
