[rQUOTEr]Rapoport: He won't take that [Broncos] offer. That offer is 3 years, up to $45M. With incentives, it can be up to $15M per year. Couple of issues with this offer: 1) If he kills it as a starter, he won't get to renegotiate right away. 2) It would pay him about the 20th best starting QB. Broncos will have to up their offer. Houston has expressed interest and are viewed as a legitimate threat to pry him away. Still a lot of time left but the Broncos do have a decision to make as far as how much do they want to commit to Osweiler, who they believe will be their starter in 2016.

    [rquoter]...

Denver wants Brock Osweiler to return and has offered him a three-year deal worth about $39 million. It's not known what guaranteed money the team offered. On a day devoted to Manning's goodbye, Osweiler's situation remained static through the early evening.

With the opening of free agency, when agents are allowed to talk to teams about their clients, but not sign them until Wednesday, Jimmy Sexton, Osweiler's representative, explored options. The Houston Texans have shown interest in Osweiler. Coach Bill O'Brien received a firsthand look at Osweiler during scrimmages at Dove Valley in summer 2014 and in the Broncos' second preseason game at Houston last season.

The Broncos have not heard much from Osweiler's side since their contract offer. General manager John Elway hinted at last month's NFL combine that Osweiler knew then of the Broncos' parameters. The Broncos are in a holding pattern, but history says they will be prepared to move quickly to other options if necessary.

Osweiler, 25, went 5-2 as a starter, throwing 10 touchdown passes and six interceptions. However, he was benched in the season finale against San Diego after the Broncos committed their fifth turnover.

    [rQUOTEr]...

If Osweiler remains in Denver, as everyone expects, the Texans are expected to turn their attention to the draft to find a quarterback.

The Texans won't pursue Robert Griffin III, who was released by Washington on Monday. Griffin doesn't fit the style the Texans play.

Griffin is a mobile quarterback whose style is more suited for coaches like Kubiak, San Francisco's Chip Kelly or Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevil.

    Savage, Hoyer remain

The Texans have veterans Tom Savage and Brian Hoyer on the roster. Brandon Weeden and T.J. Yates will become free agents Wednesday.

Unless the Texans pull off a miracle and sign Osweiler, they'll focus on the draft. Three quarterbacks - California's Jared Goff, North Dakota State's Carson Wentz and Memphis' Paxton Lynch - should be first-round picks.

Penn State's Christian Hackenberg, who played for O'Brien as a freshman at Penn State, and Michigan State's Connor Cook could sneak into the first round but may last until the second.

The last time the Texans made a big splash in free agency was 2011, when Smith signed cornerback Johnathan Joseph and safety Danieal Manning to improve the league's worst pass defense.

Will Smith be able to pull the trigger on another major deal? Stay tuned.

Bringing back Hoyer is even more scarier.

Hoyer Osweiler and Savage? Getting Mallett 2.0 so essentially would be last year on repeat. Let's hope the Colts stink it up again!

Just trade up to the Cowboys spot and get Goff or Wentz for goodness sakes.

Mallet is an idiot. I don't think Brock has superstar potential but I think he could be decent. But I agree no way would I throw that much cash at him.

That's honestly the main thing I'm worried about. If he's on the roster, BOB will shove him into the starting role at some point and that means Texans loses.

Once again, if you can read, I said I'd rather go through the draft or just wait. Just risking that much money on an unknown is stupid to me. If it works out, great. But if it doesn't, people need to get canned for it. Simple. Keep up.

I'm not saying they should be free, but 15+ million is a lot of money. Brock hasn't really shown much at all. Would you give Matt Flynn a lot of money after that one game he showed in Green Bay.

I don't think Brock is as bad as Flynn but that's besides the point. I'm just not a fan of risking that much cap space on complete unknowns. Again, if it works out great. But you can't keep your job if that **** doesn't work out. You're banking on job by making this signing.

Knowing the Texans though nobody will get canned because hardly anyone ever does.

Brock is a better option than Hoyer, Savage, and a draft prospect that you'll probably miss out on anyway. That in of itself is worth 15m a year.

I read that RG3 won't fit the Texans scheme, but this is the same staff that traded away Keenum, who actually played pretty well down the stretch and is already named the starter for the Rams next season. They also flipflopped with quarterbacks and eventually admitted that they were wrong by bringing back Hoyer. Also responsible for the clusterf*** that team ran into with Mallett. It was once said Manning and Kubiak would be an ugly marriage just with the notion of envisioning Manning running bootlegs. Fk all this scheme crap.

If they fail to sign Osweiler, completely ignore picking up RG3 for free with almost no risk (meaning he can compete for a starting job) and high reward, it speaks volumes about this organization.

More importantly, this is the same staff that brought in Hoyer to start the season because he "fit the Texans scheme" and yet the best QB for the Texans last year was TJ Yates who was picked up off the couch entirely out of the league at mid-season.

This staff is godawful at judging QB talent.

Brock Osweiler is better than Ryan Mallett. And Brock Osweiler is more mature and smarter. Mallett is an idiot.

What was the cost to the Cowboys not to have a QB ready when Romo went down? That was actually a pretty talented team to go 4-12 because of not having a back-up?

And, drafting a real QB ensures the franchise's value for the next decade. It could be their only chance to draft that high for the rest of Romo's career.

    Jerrah won't trade.

    For free? Almost no risk?

That's not how it works. That's not how any of it works.

Why are the Texans so afraid to draft their quarterback? Did David Carr make them that gun shy?

I want absolutely nothing to do with Brock Osweilers. He has shown nothing in this league to warrant such a hot pursuit. Knowing everything I know about Griffin's injury history I'd happily take that risk because I've seen him be successful in this league. I'd rather sign RG3 and then get him offensive line help. RG3 is a better passer and athlete than anyone in this years draft. Honestly I'd take Fitzpatrick over Osweilers, dude just doesn't have "it"

Is that why Osweiler beat the 12-0 Patriots and 10-3 Bengals (latter with 299 yards, QB rating of over 100) and made big plays down the stretch of both games? The lack of an "it" factor?

If only he had shown something in 2012, like RG3. Then we'd really have something, I guess.

    agreed and
i like how you worded that. STAFF. people assume rick is the 'decider' for the qbs. it has always been the coaching staff and who they feel is the best fit for their said system.
I'm tired of guys that 'know the system'. It's time for the BOB staff to jump forward on a young qb. RG3,Brock,Rookie,Savage even. But no more hoyletts. they make us get in the fetal position as fans.
