    [rQUOTEr]6. Brock Osweiler, QB, Broncos

The thirst for a quarterback in the NFL today is real. The Redskins tagging Kirk Cousins is really all you need to know about the desperation teams feel. If Peyton Manning does indeed retire, the Broncos will be experiencing a similar squeeze. This could very well lead them to splurge on their former second-round pick, whom they have spent four years developing. Outside of the Patriots game though, Osweiler (71.3) has shown little indication that he’s a quarterback that should be starting in this league. His 26.7 deep-accuracy percentage was second-worst in the NFL.

Smith will say he wanted RG3 but everyone else will want to overpay some trash qb that's good with dialogue talk, explaining film and looking smart with decision making in practice... then on GameDay he's absolute garbage. Smith keeps his job at the end of the day.

    He's not.

    He's a back-up at best.

How are you 6'7 and you get balls batted down REGULARLY?

He isn't worth $12 mill a year....and they are reporting being willing to pay $18 mill???

    GTFOH!

    Dude is garbage.

They need to try to trade for McCarron or Jimmy G or draft a QB and get a reasonable vet.

    Brock is a joke.

Well ****. Now we're going to overpay for an unproven QB.

If this doesn't work out, how can any of these idiots keep their job?

    What's the alternative?

Good or bad, at least with Osweiler, they have 7 actual NFL games to evaluate; plus, didn't they scrimmage against the Broncos last year? Perhaps they got a closer look at him then?

I mean, Denver went 5-2 with him. If you can throw all your picks and additional FA money at surrounding him with a boatload of talent, you can obviously win with him.

Really depends on the contract. I assume it would take at least matching what Denver has offered. So 15 million or more.

I think that's a lot. Rather than that, I'd just draft a QB. But if the coaching staff really likes him that much, then that's fine.

IF it doesn't work out though, someone has to get canned for it. We're basically on year 4 now of no real stability at QB.

Saw this on Deadspin. Seems like a whole lot of nothing.

Looks pretty innocuous to me. Pretty much a no story with bad timing.

Could lead to higher offers considering he didn't drop the pizza. Shows he'll hold onto the ball in the pocket.

    Man, he's a giant.

This can be misleading. Denver also went 13-2 with Peyton despite having the worst starting QB rating in the entire league and worst QB ranking in a Super Bowl. Statistically speaking, Denver fielded one of the Top 10 defenses in NFL history.

I think you can surround any one player with a boatload of talent and win, the question is how much talent do you need to surround them with and whether you can afford it.

What the hell else did you expect?

They haven't drafted or developed a QB, and good QB's basically never hit the market.

So you either get the Hoyer journeyman + an over paid free agent at a skill position OR a lottery ticket like Osweiler and hope they draft a skill position player.

I totally agree with you Brock is not the answer RG3 is a better QB and won't cost anywhere near what there talking about paying Brock.

Peyton wasn't handed back the starting QB position. Os lost it, when he laid an egg. The Broncos players had faith in Peyton, wanted him back in.

BOB has managed to coax decent QB performances out of Fitzpatrick, Hoyer and TJ Yates. If he is sold on Brock, I would trust him. If the contract is structured well enough, Brock could either be the QB of the future (mythical), or a bridge QB to someone like Hackenberg who would have more time to develop (and not cost us a 1st, or 2nd round pick). I think paying Brock is worth a gamble.
