The real issue is that Harden commits almost 4 times as many turnovers as he gets back on the defensive end. A team cannot have their primary playmaker at such a turnover deficit if they have expectations of greatness.

Great game today showing he can have high assists with limited TO's

    And the Rockets won.

    But no, turnovers don't matter

Your using "4 times" is extremely deceptive. If he averaged 0.5 steals and 2.0 turnovers would your perspective be the same? Harden averaging 37/7/7 with 3-4 turnovers a game is not going to prevent a team from reaching "greatness."

    Yep, Rockets won

If he had his usual 5 TO, I'd wager this would have been another L

But but that high usage though....

What do you think the Rockets record was last season in the games where Harden had 6 or more turnovers?

It might be enlightening to actually see the correlation between the high turnover games and winning.

Should be the standard not an aberration.

What is it this season? A season in which he is still on pace to break the record number of turnovers in a single regular NBA season.

Sure the standard for Harden should be a 14:1 assist to turnover ratio with 40 points - otherwise, if he slips below that standard, send him to Rio Grande.

Agreed . There is no reason for James not to play this well every night . It's just a simple matter of effort and caring ;)

Just for the record, 9-10 this season when Harden has 6 or more TO's

14-16 when Harden has 5 or more TO's

19-14 over the last 2 seasons on Hardens most egregious turnover games sounds alright.

Lying, Stat cherry picking, no bball knowledge though.

So we basically win at the same percentage when Harden has high turnovers and when he doesn't. So then why do you choose to latch on to that ?

Wouldn't it be smarter to try and identify something that actually has a big effect on winning?

I get it. You find his high TO's acceptable. I don't.

Now back on topic. The thread was simple. Will Harden break the unwanted record for most turnovers in a regular NBA season? What do you think?

Oh Ye, haters of little faith! No he will not! Now, crawl back to your hateful pathetic little lives and jack off to some more Debbie Downers. Crawl back out of your caves next game like you always do and give us a break in between.

Do you still believe that those high turnover games correlate to losses?
The numbers don't back that up.

Honest question. If you really believe it's that huge of a problem then why don't we lose a higher percentage of games when his turnovers are up?

We've got lots of problems on this team that do directly effect our wins and losses but that's not one of them.

Turnovers are absolutely correlated with wins. They always go into formulas like win shares. Yes it's a huge problem

And the kind of turnovers that lead to immediate fast breaks like the ones Harden has had are even worse. Nylon calculus had a good article that not all turnovers are equal, my guess is last year's were not as damaging because he wasn't just throwing it to the other team

Not sure how that's alright. This was a team that was much better than that last year
