It's just crazy to send the 2nd best PF on the roster to RGV.....but if you don't have a coach smart enough to play him, I guess you have no choice.
I do not understand. It is so infuriating to watch this team suck and not even give these young guys some PT. Trez has proven to be AT LEAST at par with our current PFs. KJ has some serious defensive potential.. If our offense is going to suck and shoot 1% from the three then why not play someone who can at least defend.. /rant
I'm beginning to wonder if we're going to send McDaniels to Philly in lieu of a second rounder in order to assure they claim Terrence around April 11th.
KJ looks bad in his limited minutes. He chucks and doesn't play hard on D, not great for a supposed defensive specialist. Sad to see Montrezl go to the Dleague as well, though.
This is about right. The guys needs to stay in the D-League for the rest of the season, though I wonder if it will do any good. He needs to learn how to shoot and also how to defend aside from the occasional block. I don't know what they see in him aside from sheer athleticism. I hope I am wrong.
I really wanted KJ to do well, he was my dark horse in the draft the year he came out. But his game does not mesh with Rockets, he has no role so he's trying to do everything and he's failing miserably. His D is just as unfocused as his offense but most of all he plays with inconsistent energy. Ready to end the KJ experiment now. Bring in some young, hungry guys with better all round game and effort. Waive KJ, TJ and Terry. Bring in James Ennis (6-7 swing who is better shooter, ball handler, passer, rebounder than KJ), Russ Smith (6-1 guard who plays D with chip on shoulder like Beverley used to, speed and explosiveness to spare, winner with never say die attitude) and Raphieal Putney (6-10 swing who can also play stretch 4 with 3 point range all the way out to parking lot, great rim protection, rebounding and ball handling for size). Make the CHANGE!!!
KJ's situation is so odd to me. He has some game, but he just plays too inconsistently too see what he's able to do. When he has played, it's mostly been during garbage time, but when I have seen him out there, he looks lost. Truly. He looks like he doesn't know what to do or he's questioning how hard he should play. I think he needs to play on RGV for a longer duration. He just needs time to play, work out his kinks and, hopefully, become ready to contribute to a team. Does anyone really think he'll be a Rocket next year? I dont.
KJ is an athlete - he is not a basketball player yet. A guy who gets by on pure athleticism gets a smack in the face when he gets to the NBA, and faces athletes near him but who also have skill. They either develop those skills or they are out of the league. KJ is on his way out. DD
His D League performances are not as dominant either. I agree that he looks lost or is trying to do too much. Handling the ball is not his thing and he should never be creative with his passes. Needs to model game after Brewer's, all energy and D all the time. Create a niche for himself.
I'm questioning whether he'll be a Rocket by the end of this season. With Lawson's buyout being so miniscule and the addition of Goudelock and Beasley to deals that increase our salary, it appears to me that we'll have to waive both Terrence and KJ to get below the tax line. I suppose we're going to wait another month or so to do it. But I'd expect Philly to pick up both players, Terrence for his birds rights, and KJ for his potential. I could be wrong but I'm thinking unless this team really takes off and Terrence (and KJ) all of a sudden change spots and becomes a primary piece of this team, that he will be released sometime around April 11th with Philly or somebody picking him up, and it wouldn't surprise me if KJ was released for us to get under the luxury tax. I cannot see Les paying the luxury tax for an 8 seed or a lottery team. That would be foolish.
They went just for this game, already reported by Feigen that they would be in Chicago. KJ is nothing special so far. I reserve my judgment until a coach comes with a proper system, because like Codman said, he looks lost a lot. That's not a player you want to give a lot of minutes to.
