Once ate at the Memorial City location in 2000 after the Enron Earth Day Festival. Edwin McCain, Dido, Vertical Horizon and the Goo Goo Dolls.

    True story

I'm pretty sure that 59 Diner was known to hire felons, which I always thought was cool. Imagining these unpaid employees as ex cons is kinda sad.

The food isn't very good there.

House of Pies or bust for me.

Well, it started sucking in about 2003, so surprised to see it last this long.

This guy owes more money to Sysco and others, apparently. And then he apparently is or has been involved in a sexual harassment suit. His attorney in that suit dropped him because he wasn't paying him. Also from the article :

Mabry said Baig may have transferred his assets to an uncle, and has been told that Baig is involved with a new restaurant, Al Caliente at 20210 Katy Freeway, which was formerly a 59 Diner location. Baig's uncle and a cousin of Baig's are listed as making the filing, Mabry said.

Only one I ever went to was the Shepherd/59 location. It was good back in the late 90's-early 00's

Yeah - for those of you who said it sucked... Yeah, it sucked.... in recent years. But in the 80's and 90's it was pretty awesome.

We visited Houston in January and went to 59 Diner for old time's sake and it was kind of depressing. It was such a great place in its day, but the management clearly failed.

The shakes at 59 and Prince's were always really good. Last time we ate at 59 though was Christmas eve a few years back. Tried to have dinner Christmas Story style. Didn't turn out so well.

One of the servers interviewed in the story, the guy who served JJ Watt and Beyonce, was our waiter. He gave my sons some 59 diner cups. He was a real nice guy and a good waiter.

I remember going there in the 1980's and thought it was pretty good. I only went there that one time, though.
