I used to use isopure and it was disgusting when I first started using it, but over time I grew to love it.

htown1984 - I would add some more carbs. Throw a little oatmeal/wheatbread and some fruit in there

I was taking regular ON whey but switched back to it's expensive cousin Hydrowhey. 65 bucks for 40 servings. Feel like I recover faster and muscles are more solid.

My very effective home weight loss plan for all you in need.

    Day 1. 8 sets of 15 push-ups.
    Day 2. 8 sets of pull-ups. 8th
Day 3. 10 sets of abs.
    Repeat cycle.

Food: beef stew meat, frozen vegetables, diet Sunkist and diet mountain dew, fat free whipped cream. Make 3 meals outta this.

more towards morning, post workout and lunch time. Just have some oatmeal/steel cuts along with your eggs and turkey. Then, throw some kind of fruit in at lunch/snack time.

I would definitely have something before you workout. At least an apple or banana along with a protein shake.

Anyone in Houston (Preferably Katy / Sugarland area) recommend any Kick Boxing / Cross Training classes?

I want to intensify my workouts and add some fun. Trying to think of new things to do.

    Thanks

So, I've been going to the gym the last few weeks, am currently here now, just taking a break. Any recommendations for fat loss and muscle gain at same time?

High protein (.8-1g per lb), minimum fats (.35g per lb), some carbs, over-all low calorie. Muscle gain will be slow at a deficit though.

I've lost 20 pounds in the last 6 weeks on something called the "slow carb diet."

Basically, I eat lean proteins, beans/lentils and tons of vegetables (no starchy ones though). No dairy, no sugar, no artificial sweetners, no fruits. No beer, but I'm allowed up to 2 glasses of dry red wine per day (pinot noir ftw).

Best part is one day a week I get a cheat day where, starting at lunch, I can eat whatever the hell I want for the entire day. That keeps you from plateauing, since it keeps your body from adjusting to the diet. Also keeps you motivated since you have that cheat day to look forward to all week!

^interesting...how do you like that diet compared to atkins? if i remember correctly that you did atkins.

now that my brain has experienced being in ketosis, coming out of ketosis a couple times and going back into ketosis, i don't think i'll go back to eating carbs. I had no idea it'd have such a profound non-weight loss effect on my life. it just really, really sucks that cheating with as little as a snickers or sweet thai curry dish causes insane mental fog, bloating, fatigue and horrible anxiety for at least a day or two. i'm starting to think i'm just allergic to sugar. and with every awful experience when i break and go for something high carb i just realize that all that delicious, sweet, perfectly-engineered-for-my-taste-buds food is not worth even tasting. i'm even trying to go the entire month of march without my precious stevia and erythritol, either. a month ago i would have rolled my eyes at quitting all sweeteners, but cutting it all out solves so many problems. maybe i'm just destined for a boring diet, sans dessert.

at least i still have cheese. **** quitting dairy.

I went on a personalized version of the wild diet and have lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I have more energy than I've had in almost a decade. I did this without any change to my exercise routine.

    What is the wild diet?

    http://fatburningman.com/

I don't follow it to a tee, but I use most of the concepts to make it simple on myself. Here is the basic summary.

Your meal should look like this.

I just replaced all the starch and simple carbs I eat with vegetables. It also uses the concept of intermittent fasting where you sometimes don't eat until late in the afternoon so your body has to burn fat as fuel. A lot of people say breakfast is the most important meal, but I've found that breakfast just usually makes me feel sluggish. I just have a cup of coffee with heavy cream in the morning and I'm good until 3 or so. I don't do this everyday. I only do it when I don't feel hungry at lunch time.

I don't buy into the grass fed beef and stuff, though I think it is better for you. I just found it too inconvenient for a busy lifestyle.

The first 3 days felt horrible because coming off of sugar is like coming off of a drug, except I craved Donuts. But after the first 3 days, I started to feel great.

I find the whole protein shake thing ironic. People get all uppity about organic, no processed foods, and stuff like that, but take protein shakes which are the most processed non organic thing you could possibly put into your body.

You may be able to get away with a lower protein intake but there are still benefits to a higher protein intake, namely the thermogenic nature of protein and also the satiety protein provides.

Not only that, but most people aren't trying to be body builders. Most people aren't trying to look like a freak show. However, somehow they think the diet translates to them.

Just because Michael Phelps eats 8000 calories a day doesn't mean a person sitting at a desk 9 hours a day should.

I like this one so much better because you never feel sluggish since you can have all the GOOD carbs (like vegetables and beans) you want.

Here's a good site to get started:

    The Slow Carb Diet

    Here's how I do it.

Breakfast - protein shake (Isopure unflavored) as soon as I wake up, then a veggie omelette when I get to work

Lunch - Salsa Chicken. I throw 3 chicken breasts, 2 cans of black beans and a jar of salsa in the crockpot every Sunday. 8 hours later, I have my lunches for the entire week. Goes good with guacamole, which is also allowed.

Dinner - varies, as long as it's on the plan

Cheat day every Sunday - I drink a protein shake as soon as I wake up, then shovel as much of whatever I want into my pie hole. I drink grapefruit juice throughout the day to keep my blood sugar from spiking.

Best thing about this diet is it's SIMPLE. Well, that and the cheat day...
