It would be interesting if someone could look at the relationship between the 3 pt. shots, long rebounds when they are missed, and the opponents' counter attack before the Rockets' defense is set. I might have heard this from basketball broadcasts many years ago when the Suns were doing the run and gun that their propensity for shooting threes resulted in long rebounds which the opponent turned into fast breaks or they attack before the Suns' defense was set. Could this contribute to the defensive lapses by the Rockets? Just curious.
yep I agree... because the Rox brick most of their shots it doesn't help their defense especially since they don't play any. However, if they made a higher percentage of their shots by default their defense would improve overall..especially they're transition D
It's because the Rockets preferred style is run n' gun. Usually when you play that way neither team plays a whole lot of defense as the game is a bit helter skelter. Since Dwight depends on getting his points from other players - he's going to thrive now in an uptempo game where there are a lot of lobs and dunks for him. But we're going to lose those games because our strength is that we have a lot of defensive players and lead the league in steals and in a shoot-out we lose because we are a pretty mediocre 3-pt shooting team except for Harden and Ariza-Bev-Terry but even they aren't lighting it up from behind the arc or anything. The only guys good inside the arc that arent' scoring off of rebounds or alley ops is Harden. Everyone else kinda sucks. So if we don't play great defense, we really have no chance unless the other team shots worse than us. Being in the lower half of the league in shooting, that doesn't happen very often.
It seems pretty simple to me. It slows down the offense a lot. The Rockets are a better team when they play fast. Even on nights where Dwight has it going offensively (which isn't always the case), he isn't very good at kicking it back out. More often than not, he won't kick it back out when he should (taking too much time off the clock) or the dribbling in the post will result in a TO. The Rockets need to play fast to be effective. If it were up to me, I'd get Howard the ball in the post only as a last resort option and only when he isn't double teamed.
This is why it kills me when people say we don't need above average shooters in Morey system. It just seems like common sense if you are gonna shoot so many three's you need above not below average three point shooter. Harden has been thriving in the mid range as well and I bet when he misses from there that Dwight cleans it a little easier or someone gets and offensive rebound or putback.
The all stats warrior, gobbles rebounds to keep em up, wants the ball so he can get that next contract, turnstile in the lane. Let him go. DD
DD can be dumb at times.... the fact is, until Harden can hold the player he guards to at least their AVG. PPG we will continue to lose. Every game , players get near career highs or career highs on us. Harden scores 28 gives up 30 to a player avg. 12 PPG Someone needs to look up, how many more games would the Rockets have won, if Harden's man scored his avg. PPG or less
I mean just look at the last game. Entire starting lineup had a high +/- except for Dwight's -1 We are straight up better without him and shame on Morey for not recognizing that and dealing him before the deadline. Even a 25c on the $1 trade would've been good
I hate to bump this, but with the addition of cp3, do you think he would of propelled now as a 3rd piece, someone who can be a force down low. This is quoting what jalen rose said where as we have no inside presence to scare the warriors. just a question.
if only Howard knew his role and kept to it as a rebounder and shot blocker primarily with the occasional lob from Paul or Harden. However, Howard's ego has him convinced that he's still a superstar caliber player, therefore he deserves extra attention and touches on the offense. That's the difference between him and say Draymond Green who knows his role and sticks to it.
Dwight wants to be a down low brother but he hasn't found the teammates to play the game he's playing.
